A/N: Hola this is a story for the people who don't like my others. There are elves in it! On to writing!
" Amerah must be moved and far away."
Memories in her past were few her history un-known. The only thing actually known was that she was 'different'. Her ears were pointed; her hair fell in long dark waves past her glittering golden eyes. Her smile would turn up your frown and her laugh would brighten anyone's day. But for some un- known reason she had been left at Halbricks School for the Fighting Arts.
"Amerah" the barrack leader yelled once more "is this another one of your strays." Exasperation filled her voice. No matter who tried Amerah was a baby for animals especially if injured or sick. Her latest charge was a two-month-old fox cub. She stepped out of her room door "yes ma'am" she yelled back. "Well get it out" was the response that held some sympathy. "Yes ma'am" came a quieter reply. Scooping it up in her arms she made for the hot summer night.
"Will that girl ever learn" the Sargent said in the teachers barrack later that night. It was a fortnight away that Amerah would most likely be leaving she would have to stop. "I still don't understand her love for animals" he continued with a smile "or the stars, fighting and philosophy." "Do we even who she truly is?" said the commander. "No" the man was frowning "there was no note or a sign of any kind. Only a card with a name on it, you know you were there." "Yes, yes I was." "Well where she's from has no matter she's our best shooter bound to be royal guard and the scouts are coming tomorrow" the Sargent said once more a smile on his face.
Amerah stretched wishing for the day to be over but she still had riding class to go to after archery. "Amerah your turn" a voice called "watch out for the scouts" Brian, her best friend, whispered into her ear. She slipped on her Archery hands and took her stance. Sliding the arrow into the bow she took a deep breath. She had to impress the scouts if she were to get out of Halbricks. Loosing she quickly reloaded and shot once more. When done with four shots she placed her bow down and took off her archery hands. Waiting for the others to finish she fiddled with her sword hilt. There was something different about her sword just as different as she was. Un-known marks had mysteriously appeared one on each birthday as well as a large crystal with a phoenix etched into it at the base of the hilt. Why the symbol of rebirth was on her sword was still a mystery.
The bell rang signaling their last class, riding. This included horsebacked spear fighting as well as jousting. Today, however, they would have to go back to falling, for the scouts. She had chosen a black mare that all avoided and used it for the past sixteen years of her life. Mounting up she trotted into the line. The line dwindled and it was soon her turn. She moved into a canter and rolled from her horse. Landing in a ball she jumped into a standing position sword in fighting position. Spear fighting was next, fighting overall was something she never failed at but she dare not get too cocky for then she would lose. The last bell rang their freedom dinner was splendid as her friends, Brian and Alec, were making fun of their teachers and enemies, though it was fun she was grateful to reside in the peace if her room. Tomorrow at breakfast the scouts would post list for the Royal Guard either you were in or at Halbricks for another year, however, she was too tired to be nervous and drifted off into an easy sleep.
Her dream was as it always had been a journey through an opaque wood. In the center there would be a bright city; the trees lit with the light of stars. She longed to see the place longed to live as one of them, but in the morning the vision would leave her to a rude awakening.
When entering the mess hall there was a mad scramble for the bulletin board. "Anna" called Brian "you're in," he said as she sat. "Really what group?" "Special forces, damn you did well." "Well what did you get?" "Normal guard duty parts in possible war. The usual." "You still did well." "Whatever you say." It would be a few days before they left for the royal city and when that day came Amerah would be glad.
