Sitting alone
In the mud and the muck
My clothes are wet, I hardly notice
I try and catch my breath
My adrenaline in running
Bullets are flying over my head
My best buddy is lying next to me, dead
The fear turns to anger as I look ahead
They're coming again, guns at the ready
For a split second I think about my mom
About my family waiting, worrying at home
But as I look at my buddy, I know what I have to do
To protect and serve, defend our rights
It's my duty and my fight
I stand in my fox hole and know it's my time
I have to hold the front line
My friends are relying on me, I can't let them down
I yell a warning to the rest of the troops
I open fire, screaming a war cry as I do
Bullets fly at my position, but I don't care
All that matters is taking some of them with me
I fire a few more shots as I fall to the ground
As I look up at the stars this night
I hope that my mom is proud that I fought this fight
That through her tears she will see that I took a stand
For freedom, country, and my fellow man
