In which Nebakh meets the girl of his dreams

Nebakh paced his room silently spotting every slight movement made. Although he failed to notice the door open or the quiet Anita step into his room.

In Anita's opinion Nebakh was a kind gentleman, not to mention quite cute. But that was out of the question. Her duty was truly to the Lady. The Lady of Magic had informed Anita of young master being in the premises, and Anita had not used the spell to forget on him. But either way the nightly magic seekers never seemed to remember a thing of the night before. However young master had remembered her name, and she was hoping quite a bit more.

"You!" Nebakh stated as he noticed the intruder.

"Do you remember me sire?"

"Yes I do remember, Anita, am I right?"

"Yes you are. Do you remember anything else?"

"Bright light, and the most wonderful scent."

"Master it's time you met someone of great importance."

Anita grabbed Nebakh by the wrist and he was about to lurch away but rethought his actions. Something told him to follow Anita, something was urging him to find or search for something new. He was intrigued to follow even more when Anita led him through an underground passage into the servants quarters. The first two people Nebakh recognized were Hope, and Jovial.

"Master?" Hope spoke question masking her face. Her darting eyes ran
about looking for Jovial. "Have we done anything wrong sire?"

"No you have done nothing wrong Hope." Nebakh lightly ruffled her hair.

Anita felt rude for interrupting such a rare kind moment. "Do you by chance have clothes that the master could borrow?"

"I do not ma'am but Jovial may have some. Jovial!" Jovial came dashing into sight and bowed in the presence of Nebakh.

"Jovial I am Anita. I was wondering if you had any garments that the master could borrow?"

"Plenty but I do not believe that they are fit for such royalty."

"He's going on a excursion and there's no other way to leave the Palace without guards on our backs. So please?"

"Yes ma'am." He handed both a plain white tunic, and tan, rather comfortable breeches to Nebakh when he was clothed he came out from behind a curtain.

"Perfect fit. Thank you for your kindness Jovial."

"Anything else master."

"That will be all."

Anita once again grabbed him by the wrist and led him until they were in the royal hall and heading for the great oak doors. Nebakh saw his father standing straight and tall talking to one of the butlers. Then the tall man in all black ran off to do some deed and Anita let go of his hand. Nebakh followed her hoping to the great heavens that the tyrant would not turn around. But the Gods betrayed him in allowing him to do so.

"And where do you think you two are going?" the tyrant spat in Anita's face.

"Sire" Anita knelt "this young boy is new to the ranks of servants. He will be one of the many town boys. I was asked to show him the town."

"Very well than out of my sight."

Anita ran followed closely by Nebakh. "That was good" he told her as they reached the end of the gardens and he could see the town.

"Thank you. Now you need a peasant name master."

"Please just Nebakh."

"That's perfect you'll be Nebakh."

"No Anita that's my name." But Anita failed to notice him. She pranced down the Great Road and into the town half-dragging Nebakh along. They were stopped by a rather tall woman in the nearby cooking shop. She appeared to be cooking some ginger sweet cookies, Nebakh's favorite.

"Anita" said the lady in a rather screechy voice. In Nebakh's opinion she sounded rather like a crow. "Now who is this adorable young man?"

"This is Nebakh Mrs. Witherspine. He's a new servant up in the palace."

"Do you like it up their young man?"

"No not really ma'am."

"Have you met the tyrant yet? Do you like him?"

"Yes I have met and heard of the tyrant. In my own frame of mind I would call him a sick, selfish, and disgusting man."

"Well, I told you the young ones would agree with me. You seem to be a very well spoken young man. We need more gentlemen such as yourself these days."

"Thank you ma'am."

"Well goodbye Mrs. Witherspine." Anita dragged him off once more. How she did so was un notable as Nebakh was rather distracted by the scenery. She was finally fed up with his stalling. "Are you just being stupid or trying play your roll?"

"To tell you the truth I've never been in this town."

"Really?" question was all over her face. She seemed a little less tormented as they continued their slow journey to the Gods no where. "Nebakh you should probably tell the person we are visiting you're true name he can tell when one is lying."

Nebakh followed Anita up a flight of wooden, creaky stairs and into a tall, dark building.

"Wouldn't it be polite to knock?" Nebakh said as Anita just walked right past the open door.

"He already knows you're coming. This way, master."

Nebakh followed rather cautiously. The place was dimmed and had only torches to light the halls. It was rather spooky and sort of medieval.

"Come in." The voice came from a room on the left. "I was expecting you Anita. May I ask who this young gentleman is?"

"I am Nebakh sir." Anita glanced at him.

"Indeed you are, and that would make you the tyrants son."

"Correct sir."

"And am I correct in saying you disapprove of your father and his actions?"

"Indeed you are sir."

"Well sit down. Anita I knew that was beyond your reason of bringing Nebakh so please speak."

"Well sir, Nebakh was walking in the gardens well we were worshiping the Lady. The only thing different about Nebakh was he remembered the magic smell and so forth."

"Anita, you have forgotten that you can not smell magic if you cannot feel or be a part in it. Now turn on the lights so I can overview this boy, I was meditating before you came."

Anita turned the light on and Nebakh was just a little aghast. The Mage's voice had been young, and vibrant. He gave of the feeling of energy. And behind the darkness there lay one of the most beautiful men. It seemed as if his tan skin had not aged a day and his eyes were bright blue bulbs.

"May I ask a question of you, Nebakh?" Nebakh didn't answer before the Mage moved on. "What was the fragrance of the magic?"

"Many, I could pick out Vanilla, any type of flower, I believe that I could pick out ginger as well."

"That was the one I was waiting for. Nebakh ask your father if he really is your father. He will ask if you have been snooping, just say no resemblence. That is the last piece of information I need from you. But if he indeed say no you must snoop for the files that will reveal the truth."

"Yes sire" Nebakh was kneeling. "I will do so. Would you like the information by a certain time?"

"Tomorrow would be best. If you can not do tomorrow just tell me in your head. I will receive the message."

Nebakh left a little more than confused, but with a lot more to contemplate. So much he was silent until dinner when his father requested his presence.
