West pulled his sunglasses off and took another swing of his coffee, he would have to go back to the 'Havana', the coffee was damned good. West ambled past the security guard and flashed him a smile.
"Morning, Greg." West greeted.
"Morning, ." Greg answered as he looked through his morning paper. West worked for Soul Mates Connected. A company that specialized in the finding of soul mates and matching them up with their own perfect match. Security was tight around the building with all the greedy spies out looking for any loose information they could find to take back to their own employers.
After West walked down the long hallways to his office, punched in his security clearance code, he was finally ready to work.
"Hey, West." Anna Garner smiled at West when he entered the room, West nodded his greeting.
"So, what are we working on today?" West asked as he took a seat next to Anna.
"Oh, we are just looking for a new way to set up soul mates...we are thinking a gathering of soul mate hopefuls, but we really aren't sure as to where." Anna replied as she shoved her pencil behind her ear and looked at West with a raised eyebrow.
West leaned back in his chair and thought a moment, just then the door opened and Travis walked in. Travis Clains was essentially West and Anna's supervisor where they worked.
"Hey, guys. How are the ideas coming for the gathering?" Travis asked as he took a seat in the empty chair across the white table from Anna and West.
"Still nothing really, it can't be cheesy. But, it has to bring people in, we want an intimate feel to be around this event." Anna said with a sigh as she reached for her coffee cup...coffee... West thought suddenly. His eyes traveled to the coffee cup that he had just recently put down.
The mocha brown color contrasting deeply with the white top of the table, Havana scrawled across the side in royal blue, West smiled as a thought came to him.
"I've got the perfect place for it." West said his eyes still on the coffee cup that stood in front of him.
"I'm not sure about this, sir." Gabby said into the phone.
"Gabby, please don't call me sir, call me Travis." the smooth voice of Travis Clains told her, Gabby rolled her eyes and leaned against the granite counter top.
"Okay, Travis. I'm not sure about your proposition." Gabby made sure to emphasize his name.
"Why is that, Gabrielle?"
"It's Gabby, Travis. And, because my partner isn't too fond of this whole Soul Mate basura." Gabby smirked as she took a page out of Travis' book.
"Ba-what?" Travis rubbed his temples as he took a breath to reason with Gabby, he looked over at West who was leaning back against the white table top looking at him expectantly.
"Trash, Travis. It means trash." Gabby looked out into the café from the kitchen where she stood with the phone, she made sure things were in order before she turned her attention back to the phone.
"This place better be worth it." he grumbled.
"What was that?" Gabby asked.
"I uh, nothing. Like, I was saying Gabby, I'm sure we can work something out. An associate of mine has informed me that Havana is exactly what we are looking for to host our special event." Travis recovered quickly, 'I really need to stop thinking out loud.' he thought.
"Look, I–"" Gabby began, Travis sensed he was losing her so he interrupted.
"I'm willing to offer five grand."he blurted out, 'So much for not seeming desperate.' he thought with a shake of his head.
Gabby paused, 'Five grand?! For ONE NIGHT!', she ran a shaky hand through her hair, "I'm listening."
"GABBY, YOU WHAT?!"Claire screamed as she stared in shock at Gabby.
"I, uh...let soulmatesconnectedrentthecafe." Gabby said in one breath. Claire put down the dishrag she had been cleaning up a table with and glare.
"What's going on?" Trent asked as he walked into the main room, he looked between Gabby who was smiling big to Claire who was shooting death looks at her.
"Gabby let that Soul Mate crap in here." Claire said.
"No, what I did was make us an easy five grand." Gabby retorted.
"FIVE GRAND?!" Trent hollered.
"HOLY HALLOWEEN!" Claire screamed.
"Yea, EXACTLY! I couldn't pass it up, I'm not tonta." Gabby said excitedly, maybe she could get Claire to come around.
"But, Gabby..."Claire let her voice trail off with a sigh.
"Look, I know you don't like this stuff, but its enough to get Havana 2 up and going. I couldn't let it pass us by, girl." Gabby pleaded.
"She's right, man." Trent added. "Five grand, that's insane."
"You, shut your face." Claire gestured to Trent, who only laughed because he could see the smile forming on Claire's lips.
"So, is this gonna happen, or am I gonna have to call Mr. Please-call-me-Travis and tell him to find another place?" Gabby asked, she placed a hand on the phone.
"Go with option one! ONE!" Trent yelled as he jumped around excitedly, he held up a single finger to emphasize one. Claire sighed, five grand was a lot of money for one night's work and it would get Havana 2 going without them having to dip into the savings account. After a careful moment of thinking, Claire threw up her hands and sighed.
"Fine, we'll do it. BUT, this will be the ONLY TIME that this soul mate crap is let in our business." Claire said as she looked between Gabby and Trent who were nodding enthusiastically.
"Dude, does this mean I get a raise or something?" Trent wondered as they exited the building for the night. Gabby and Claire groaned and shoved him into the side of building.
"What?! No raise?" Trent asked as he dusted his leather jacket off, he followed the two women a few steps behind.
"Nope." Gabby laughed as they stopped and waited for the pedestrian sign to appear so they could cross the street.
"I'm so taking this up with the union." Trent crossed his arms over his chest and held his head up trying to look dignified.
"That's all well and good, but mejo, you don't belong to a union." Claire smiled up at Trent, who frowned when he realized that he didn't.
"Then, I'll take that up with the union, how dare those bastards keep me out!" Trent held an arm up as he charged ahead of the laughing Gabby and Claire.
"Trent, shut your face! You are making a scene!" Claire hissed as people began to cast curious looks at the trio.
"WHICH WAY TO THE UNION!" Trent yelled as he pushed his way ahead of them as if he hadn't heard Claire.
"Wierdo." Gabby muttered as they watched Trent continue down the sidewalk, every now and then yelling something about the union and bastards.
