Duties of Life or Love: Chapter Three- Going Crazy

Warning: This is a story that has gay, yaoi, slash, or whatever you want to call it inside it. This means that there are two guys in here that like each other. If you don't like, don't read. I won't give much more warning beyond that. If you don't mind, then keep on reading.

Everything seemed a blur after the kiss for Shiken. His feelings torn. Especially for something he had realized. Although Kyo seemed like someone he would have probably liked to spend his life with, he was a demon and a Hitotama at that. He was supposed to be killed by Shiken. Not loved.

"SHIKEN! WAKE UP!" shouted Aren. "You're letting the stir fry burn!"

"Huh? What? Ack!" said Shiken as he began to stir the contents of the wok. Through his quick work, he had managed to save it from burning. "That was close."

"I'll say! We're eating that! What's wrong with you? You're never like this." said Aren.

"I just... I don't know anymore..."

Shiken was sitting on his roof after lunch. The stir fry had nothing wrong with it, to which Aren was happy with. Kalin didn't notice a thing about Shiken's inner tourmoil like Aren did over lunch. However, he let Shiken have his space. This was his problem and the answer could only come from him.

"Hello again demon slayer."

Shiken turned his head to the familiar voice. It was Kyo. Shiken drew his sword.

"Come now. I'm not here to hurt you. I just want to talk." said Kyo.

"I don't care. I'm supposed to kill you." said Shiken uneasily.

"You sound unsure. I thought that you were much more stronger than that." said Kyo.

Shiken tried to firm his resolve, but what Kyo was wearing wasn't helping. An open leather vest that revealed his firm muscled chest and tight jeans that showed off his legs.

"Stay back or I kill you. I-I have to." said Shiken.

"Why? You're just a demon slayer. Nothing big just talking to a demon, right?"

Shiken lowered his gaze just a bit, but remained on guard. "I have to kill you because you are a Hitotama and I am a Shinriyue."

"Then that means, you are Shiyue's son. Shiken. Your father killed mine. I should be trying to kill you too." said Kyo softly. "But you've done something to me. I can't bare to hurt you."

"I did nothing but my job." said Shiken. "My father did the same to your father. He did his job. It nearly cost him his life. Now, I must kill you. Even if it means mine. You are of the Hitotama demon clan. You're not even supposed to be standing like that right now."

"Do you think I care."

Shiken's gaze instantly rose into Kyo's eyes. The reddish purple orbs did not waver in their close up gaze of Shiken. Kyo took his fingers and held Shiken's chin so he couldn't look away.

"Look at me. I don't care if you're a Shinriyue. I don't care that I'm a demon and a Hitotama. If my heart says I love you than I do."

"But I do care. My father is depending on me. I'm supposed to kill you and every other demon that I come across. I can't defy my duties for love." 'Even if that love holds great promise...' thought Shiken.

"Duty? Feh, I could care less for duty. My father did tell me to kill you one day if he didn't. Back then I would have should I have met you. But now, I don't give a damn because I saw how beautiful you are."

"You don't know one thing about me. How can you say you love me so easily just because you think I'm beautiful. I won't say the same about you. I may like how you look, but until I know about you, I won't say I love you. Still then, I have to kill you."

Kyo continued to stare into Shiken's eyes. The pale gold in them was set firm on something, but Kyo knew he stil wasn't sure about anything. Kyo sighed. If that was the way that Shiken wanted to play it, then Kyo would do it.

"Fine. I'll play your way. Make up your mind as to if you want to kill me or love me. I'll be waiting." said Kyo as he ran off but not before kissing Shiken again.

"Hey..." said Shiken, but Kyo was already gone. "Damn it... As if I didn't have enough to worry about..."

In the days that followed, Shiken was distant with everything. Nothing suffered, however, because he seemed to snap out of it before anything bad happened. Still, the conflict was driving him crazy. Although he didn't know anything about Kyo, he wanted to love him, but the voice of Shiyue kept ringing in his ears. Constantly reminding him that the Hitotama demon clan was their enemy. His head and heart both fought a constant war. Neither won.

"I'm going to go crazy before anything happens." muttered Shiken as he made his way to class.

All the while, Kyo watched. He saw the conflict within Shiken. But he couldn't do anything. It wasn't his place. Or was it? Kyo smirked as he disappeared. Meanwhile, Shiken was staring off in space durring his AP Math class. His thoughts wandered to what Kyo had said to him.

"I don't care if you're a Shinriyue. I don't care that I'm a demon and a Hitotama. If my heart says I love you than I do..."

'But do you Kyo?' thought Shiken. 'Do you love me? Or is this some way to get at me to kill me...'

/Shiken... Pay attention in class.../

Shiken's head snapped up at the sound of the spirit voice. "Shiyue-den..." Shiken focused his powers and saw Shiyue infront of him. "Dad..."

/Hello Shiken. I'd suggest you pay attention now. It's a review for one of your tests./ said Shiyue's soul.

Shiken nodded. Shiyue moved out of Shiken's range of view and placed a gentle hand on Shiken's shoulder. Although he was only a soul, Shiken could feel Shiyue's touch comforting him and getting him to focus. Shiken nodded to himself. He would have to think about Kyo later.

~Hello my Shiken~

Shiken's head snapped up again. Some one was talking in his head and it sure wasn't him.

~Who are you? What are you doing in my head!?~

~I'm hurt. I thought you'd remember me.~

~Kyo... Get out of my head right now!~ shouted Shiken in his head.

~Why? I like it in here.~ teased Kyo. ~Oooh! Is this a naughty little thought of me over here?

~Stop probing my head!~ yelled Shiken in his head again.

~Please, I haven't even started yet.~ argued Kyo. ~But I was wondering if you really do have any naughy thoughts about me.~

~Now is not the time to ask! I'm in the middle of class!~ replied Shiken in his head again while blushing. He hated to admit it, but there sort of was a dream he'd rather Kyo not see.

/Shiken, is something wrong?/ came Shiyue's voice.

"No dad, nothing's wrong right now." lied Shiken quietly to Shiyue.

Shiyue took his word. /Okay then. I'll take my leave of you now. I'll see you at home./ With that, Shiyue's presense could not be felt.

Shiken sighed and got back to getting Kyo out of his head. Litterally. If anything, this really was going to drive him crazy.

~Kyo, get out of my head now or I will kill you.~

~I thought you didn't have the heart to yet.~

~I will if you keep annoying me.~

~Fine, I'm going. I'm going. But not before doing this!~

At that moment, Shiken felt as if someone's lips were being pressed against his, but no one was there. He was blushing like crazy afterwards.

"Shiken, are you okay?" asked Aren after he saw Shiken's huge blush session.

"Um, er, yeah I'm fine. Why do you ask?" said Shiken hesitantly.

"You don't look it! You're all sweaty and nervous. Not to mention that huge blush session in class. What's going on? Unless... You like someone!" declared Aren.

"Admit it! You were thinking of someone!"

"I was not!"

"Yes you were!"

"I was not, Aren!"

"Yes you were! Don't lie to me! I'll find out soon enough anyway!" argued Aren. "Now fess up or I'll just have to tell everyone that you like some girl or whatever and cause a whole ton of trouble for you."

Shiken sighed. "Okay... I sort of was kind of thinking of some one... But not in any romantic way!"

Aren gave him a skeptical look, but decided to be happy with what he learned. "Alright I'll get off your back now, but you better tell me some more soon!"

"When I figure it out myself I will." muttered Shiken as he went off to his next class.

Eh, I still feel like I'm moving this story too fast. I really want to make a nice long chapter, but I just can't seem to. That, and I want to beat Rebirth of the Heart's 14 chapters. Call me ambitious, but it's for you guys, right? I'm not making anything off of this. But either way, I'm enjoying trying to write this story so you people better enjoy it. So please review right now! Not only do I want to beat chapters, but reviews!
