Two weeks since Marlene had staggered into the 1920's and already Rudolf was making permanent plans with his parents. One night, while Marlene was supposed to be sleeping she decided to go into the library. She walked in and saw Rudolf looking out the window at the ocean.

"Rudolf?" She asked casually, and softly as to not startle him.

He looked over at her with gentle eyes. "Please, come sit Marlene."

She walked over over to him and sat next to him.

"Marlene, what do you want in your life? Honestly. What do you really want in your life?"

She felt strange having this question asked to her. Never had she been asked ithis/i type of question before. "Well, I want," she paused to think. "I want... a lot of different things..."

"No, no. I mean as in, what do you want to do with your life."

"Oh," her voice went soft for a moment. "Well, I'd love to travel. I'd also love to be with someone." It was late and she didn't care. Maybe now she'd spill out the unsaid feelings for Rudolf. Although they never verbally exchanged feelings too often, the feelings were there and they both knew it.

"Marlene, are you sure you wanted to live with me back here in the twenties... I mean, it's a lot different from the time era you're from. I know that you had a completely different life. I don't know, it's just, there's a lot of stress, the economy slowly dwindling, the state of the world for that matter, different lifestyles, and even a different place. How do you know that you made the right choice. Was the choice just for me, or because you wanted to do this just to escape your own history?"

"Rudolf. I came to the twenties because I wanted to, not just because of you. I just wanted to. I know that everything is different now, and that's fine by me. I know what the future holds. I've read about it and wished I could live it... and now I am. You don't understand what this means to me. It's something that I always wished for, and now I have it."

Rudolf nodded. "I'm glad you made this decision, and I know that we never really said anything, but there are feelings there. What do you think?"

Marlene smiled. "Yes, they are there. I also think that we're in this for the long run."

Rudolf put his arms around her waist and stood up from the chair. As if it were on script Marlene put her arms around his neck. The moonlight shone in from the window and set an eerie blue cast on them reflecting from the water. One of Rudolf's hands reached upwards towards her cheek. He bent his head close to her face. "Marlene, I don't know if I ever told you this passionately enough, but I love you. I love you Marlene."

Marlene could feel his breath on her face. It was warm, smelled of some minty substance, and was beautiful. Before this their strange relationship had been more playful than serious. Sure, it had it's serious moments, but few and far between. This was...different. They lingered there for a moment until Rudolf spoke.

"Marlene, I think I know that we both want something deeper than a here and there serious relationship."

She nodded slightly. She was unaware whether he'd say he couldn't give her that, or if he'd say he'd like it.

"Marlene, do you want to be in a deeper relationship with me? Because, I'd love to be your boyfriend... and.."

"Yes, I'd love to, Rudolf!"

Then and there he gave her the first serious kiss that she'd ever gotten in her life. Everything was beautiful. The moon was shining onto their standing spot. The dark marble floor reflected it like a shallow ocean wave. It was beautiful. Marlene fell into a world of bliss. This was the first completely perfect moment she'd had in a long time... and would have for a long time on that note...

Stopping he just looked at her beauty. She looked so beautiful under the moonlight. "Marlene, you are beautiful... I would love to spend all I can with you. Will you be my girlfriend... a very serious girlfriend...?"

Marlene blinked and smiled. After all, she had come here for this. "Yes. I will."
