Warning: In this story, there are going to be two boys that like each other, or as I refer to it, yaoi. If you are close minded and hate the thought, get the hell out. If you're open minded, then please do keep reading and... YOU ROCK!
Disclamer: I do not own Rurouni Kenshin!
All through January and Febuary, Kennji tried to open up Kiyuuji. Nothing worked. He would try games, activites, going to class together, almost everything he could think of. In March and April, he tried dragging him around and trying to force Kiyuuji to talk and open up other than staying quiet, emotion-less, and respond to everything with "Hn.", "Whatever.", or "Go away." Still, it didn't work. Now it was May, spring was in full force. The school's annual Sakura Festival was about to be held. Every year the school would celebrate the blossoming of the sakura trees. Especially the big magic one in the center of the school's town. Why? It had been a tradition and the school symbolized the opening of the blossoms to the awakening of new magic within the students. But besides that, the festival was a week of no school and plenty of games, food, and other fun things. Especially at night where there were fireworks and magical spells cast to light up the night every night. It was a very beautiful sight to sit under the magically lit sakura trees and view the fireworks exploding and some of the spells that the teachers cast go up into the air and explode into candy or other sweets that many of the students scrambled for as they fell. Kennji had attended every time since he had come to the school. Now his current mission, take Kiyuuji to the festival. The day before the festival started, Kennji decided to make his move.
"Hey Kiyuu-san!" shouted Kennji as he entered their room, calling Kiyuuji by the nickname he had given him.
Kiyuuji glared at him, obviously not liking the nickname. "What do you want."
"Well..." said Kennji acting shy all of a sudden. "I was just wondering if you were thinking about the school's Sakura Festival and..."
"You wanted to know if I was going." finished Kiyuuji.
"Yup! So what do ya' say?" asked Kennji.
"No."
"No? Come on Kiyuu-san! It'll be fun! No school for a week, and we can both have fun at the festival playing games or eating sweets!" declared Kennji, trying to pour on all the charm and his powers of persuasion.
Kiyuuji looked at him as if he was crazy. "No. I am not going to that festival. And if you want to get fat by eating all those sweets, good for you."
Kennji pouted. "Come on Kiyuu-san, loosen up! Have some fun!" Kennji shouted.
Kiyuuji glared at him again, tearing away his consentration from his book. "NO! I am not going to that festival and you can't make me! I don't want to go! I don't care for it! And stop calling me Kiyuu-san!"
Kennji started to poke his index fingers together like anime characters did while pouting. "Please Kiyuu-sempai?"
"Don't call me Kiyuu-sempai. We're both the same age."
"Kiyuu-chan?"
"No."
"Kiyuu-kun?"
"No."
"Kiyuu?"
"NO!"
Kennji pouted again. "Come on. Just for one night. That's all I ask. That you come to the festival for one night and then you don't have to come for the rest of the days. Please Kiyuu-san."
Kiyuuji glared at him before rubbing his temples. "You're going to bother me until I say yes, aren't you."
"Yup."
Kiyuuji growled. "Fine. ONE night. That's it. I'm not going for any more days or nights, got it? And then after that you have to leave me alone and stop calling me Kiyuu-san. Deal?" Kennji smiled and nodded in agreement. "Good now leave me alone."
"But don't you have to buy your kimono? It is traditional you know." pointed out Kennji.
"It's tradional for the girls to wear kimonos because Japanese girls gave the school the big magic sakura tree." muttered Kiyuuji.
"But boys wear them too, don't they?"
"Only if they want to."
"Great! So I can wear mine!"
Kiyuuji pushed a lock of hair behind his ear to look at Kennji from the corner of his eye. "You have your kimono?"
"Yup! Want to see?" said Kennji happily.
"I'm afraid that if you show it to me, I'm going to burn it." said Kiyuuji with a malicious glint in his eye.
"Come on, don't be so mean Kiyuuji." argued Kennji. "Come on! Let's go to the school's town and buy you one!"
"I don't want one." glared back Kiyuuji. "It'll be fine if I go in my regular clothes."
"But I heard everyone else is going to wear a kimono, even all the boys!"
"Well I choose to be different."
Kennji glared at him. "What is your problem! I try to be nice, but you just throw it back in my face! Come on Kiyuuji! Lighten up!"
Kiyuuji only motioned his hand as if to shoo him away. Kennji glared at him a bit longer before going away. Kiyuuji said nothing, consentrating only on his book. Soon the festival was around. School was closed, and the dorm hallways were empty. That night, Kiyuuji sat at his computer, typing up a report due next month until something tapped his shoulder. Kiyuuji turned around and would have gasped had he been a bit more open, but his mouth remained shut and his mind stoic. There stood Kennji looking stunning in his dark blue men's kimono. The half jacket was navy blue and the inside kimono was blue. The pleated pants were black and his hair was combed neatly.
"How do I look?" asked Kennji.
Kiyuuji only turned around and went back to focusing on his report. "It's fine."
"Well are you going to get ready?"
"Excuse me?"
"You remember!" said Kennji with a smile. "You said you'd go for one night, so come on!"
"I did say that, but I didn't say which night." replied Kiyuuji.
Kennji pouted. "Alright fine. Be that way. I'm going!" he shouted as he went out the door.
"Hn."
The rest of the week flew past with Kiyuuji only staying in the room. Kennji constantly nagged him about going as he was about to leave, always wearing the same kimono when he was going. Kiyuuji always said nothing as he left. The last festival night came. It was to wrap up everything and to say good bye to the sakura blossoms that were now falling off the trees.
"Come on Kiyuuji. You have to come tonight! It's the last night. You promised." argued Kennji.
"I know. But I don't feel like going anymore. I've gotten used to you annoying me anyway." said Kiyuuji off handedly.
Kennji huffed up. "Alright fine. I'll see you later."
Kennji left leaving Kiyuuji alone. Kiyuuji stared at his computer and the words on the screen. Five minutes later he got up angrily and grabbed his jacket. At the festival, Kennji tried to enjoy himself like he did all the other nights, but something felt like it was missing. Dismissing it, Kennji tried to catch some more sweets. Then, all of a sudden, everyone stopped and was staring. Kennji stopped to try and see what everyone was looking at. Footsteps approached. Everyone moved aside gasping as the person walked. Making a dramatic appearance was Kiyuuji. Dressed in a red kimono and over it a dark red half jacket. His pants were white and his chin length hair was tied back in a small ponytail which make him look slightly like Rurouni Kenshin. As he walked, some sakura blossoms fell and he caught one in his extended hand. As he did, a sweet fell into his hand as well. Slowly, he continued walking until he was right infront of Kennji. Kennji had to admit, red definately was Kiyuuji's color.
"Come to think of it, I think it's better if you don't annoy me anyway." said Kiyuuji as he put both the sweet and flower into Kennji's bag and started walking off somewhere else. "Enjoy the rest of your night." he said while waving from behind his back.
Kennji was speech-less! Kiyuuji had shown up. But didn't he say that he was used to him annoying him? Did he come because he felt bad about breaking the promise? Kennji's head swam with all the thoughts and possiblities.
'It's probably nothing. Kiyuuji just probably wanted to show me that he does whatever he wants. It means nothing.' thought Kennji as another sweet fell into his bag with out him even noticing.
The next morning, Kennji woke up to see Kiyuuji sitting at his computer, still typing his report. His memory was a little fuzzy. He had eaten some sweets and then drunk some sake. Okay, a lot of sake and now had a hang over.
'Ugh...' thought Kennji. 'What happened last night. From the looks and feels of it, I got wasted. But Kiyuuji... It doesn't look like he came like he promised. Or did he?'
Kennji looked around. His eyes fell on Kiyuuji's closet. There, hanging on the door was Kiyuuji's kimono. He looked at his night stand, there lay a wilted sakura blossom amongst plenty of sweets and candy.
'I remember now! He did come! Yes! Score one for me!' cheered Kennji in his head. At that moment, Kiyuuji turned to look at him.
"Hn, good to see you awake. I hope you know you need to loose some weight. I had to carry you back after you got drunk." muttered Kiyuuji.
Kennji blushed. "Sorry. Must have been all the sweets."
"I thought so." said Kiyuuji before returning to his report.
Kennji continued to look at Kiyuuji after that. 'I don't care what you say now Kiyuuji. The fact that you cared enough to carry me back is enough to show me that you're not how you say you are.'
Another chapter down! Whoo! I'm on a roll! This actually wasn't so bad, but I think I'm rushing it. It's supposed to take the whole year for Kennji to get at Kiyuuji fully. Just skipping four months doesn't help... Oh well. I can still pull out some more chapters. There are still plenty of months left in the story's time line. ^_^ Anyway, please review and tell me what you think. I need to know so I can either improve or something else. Come on... You know you want to...
