Chapter 4: Reflections and Visitations

Note: Sorry for late update. Not a lot of dialogue until further in the chapter so suffer Ciaran's inner monologue. XD

Updated: 1.27.04

Wyn and Devin suffered a bit from jet lag, thus slightly affecting Abigail and Ciaran's schedules. It wasn't that much of a big deal though since winter break was coming up for university. Ciaran was disappointed that Wyn's mother wasn't brought up again although Wyn was quite grateful for the fact. Ciaran frowned as he washed the dishes thoughtfully. Abigail and Devin were at the university library while Wyn was in bed. Ciaran was left to mull over the past few days.

After Abigail's shriek fest, nothing had happened. Ciaran kept thinking back to Wyn and his mother. Wyn had never liked talking about the past much so Ciaran never asked. Ciaran wasn't a very inquisitive person by nature and he took Wyn's stoic nature in stride usually. But this time, this time Wyn's family had been brought up and now it was like a pesky scab that you couldn't ignore. You just had to keep picking at it. So Ciaran let the gears start in his head, and no one was there to stop them from turning.

Most of his friends either didn't like Wyn or were just okay with him. The ones who disliked him claimed that he was an asshole while the others said that he seemed to be a bit difficult to approach. Ciaran let out a small laugh remembering their first awkward meeting. Abigail was just about the only one who regarded Wyn with fond affection, and Ciaran thought it was just Abigail being Abigail until he found a picture of Wyn and her together a few months into their relationship.

He and Abigail had just moved in together so he helped her unpack the loads of boxes she had brought with her. He was mostly just surprised although he did harbor a silly moment of suspicion as to their relationship. He brought the picture to Wyn and Wyn had laughed at him. Ciaran was awed at seeing Wyn's laughing face for the first time. That broke the ice of the first few months in the relationship.

Ciaran thrived on observing Wyn. Every smile, frown, laugh, and arched eyebrow was recorded carefully in his mind like a photograph. He had initially found it so strange that he found Wyn so captivating. No one had ever caught his attention like that before. Afterwards, he gradually began to accept it even as his friends kept advising him to find another boyfriend, a boyfriend to suit their needs. Ciaran liked Wyn just fine.

"What are you thinking about so deeply?" interrupted the very person whom he was thinking about. Ciaran nearly dropped the dish he had been washing for the past few minutes in surprise. He hadn't noticed Wyn standing behind him. How long had he been there?

Ciaran let out a breath, grinned and said, "I was thinking about you."

Wyn arched an eyebrow and said, "Me?"

"Yup," Ciaran said, "I was thinking of you and your cat-like tendencies."

Wyn frowned and said, "I am not like a cat at all."

Ciaran just smiled bemusedly, which only served to fuel Wyn further.

Wyn said, "Just how am I like –"

Ding Dong. They both turned to the door.

Ciaran turned off the water. Wiping his hands on his pants as he made his way to the door, Ciaran said over his shoulder, "I guess I'll just have to tell you another day." Wyn scowled.

Ciaran opened the door to see a young man and woman. The young woman smiled brightly and said, "What's up Wyn? We came to visit because we were worried. It's been a while since you know." Her grass green eyes twinkled mischievously. Ciaran resisted the urge to sigh. It was Lara and her cousin Henry. She had been trying to set them up for ages, and Ciaran was sick of it. Putting her matchmaking tendencies aside, Lara was usually a person who was enjoyable to hang out with. She was a frank person with sharp intelligence. It was just her bossiness that got to you. Henry lingered shyly behind her and offered a small sheepish wave that made Ciaran's lips turn upward. Lara smiled knowingly, taking away the humor for Ciaran.

Wyn called out from the kitchen, "Who is it Ciaran?" Lara's transformation was immediate as an angry look replaced her grinning, mischievous visage.

She whispered angrily, "What the hell is he doing here?" Ciaran lifted his hand to his head to soothe the oncoming headache.

Wyn, not hearing a response, stepped out from the kitchen and said questioningly, "Ciaran?" He stopped in his steps as soon as he saw Lara and Henry. Wyn and Lara were like oil and water in that they just didn't mix. Worse yet was that they exchanged verbal blows each time they crossed paths.

Wyn clenched his fists together as he struggled to control his temper. He breathed and thought to himself, "Restraint. You need to have restraint."

Lara, on the other hand, didn't feel the need to restrain to herself and stomped into the apartment up to Wyn. Glaring balefully at him she said, "What the hell are you doing here?" Wyn just stood there and said nothing and that incensed Lara further. "Hmph, ashamed are you? Leaving Ciaran like that for five fucking months! I knew that you weren't good for him. I knew it but Ciaran just wouldn't listen to me. He told me to mind my own business but you know what? I knew all along that you were just an asshole. You shouldn't even be here right now. Leave. I want you to get the hell out of here right now."

Wyn just stood there, and it pained Ciaran to watch. Usually Wyn would come up with a witty retort to counter Lara, yet today he wouldn't say anything at all. Ciaran could see that Wyn was swallowing the words he wanted to say. Why? Why won't he say anything? Thought Ciaran. Then he was struck with a sudden realization as he remembered the conversation he had with Abigail only yesterday. Wyn was doing this for him. He remembered Abigail's exact words, "Wyn's really fucked up in the head right now Ciaran. He isn't in his normal state of mind. He'll do things your way just to please you. He'll do things you wouldn't expect just because he'll think it'll make you happy. Just try to put up with him and not get angry at him. He'll react like a kicked puppy when he's really a cat. "

Ciaran was suddenly brought back to reality as the sound of a slap echoed through the apartment. He watched in fascinated detachment as Wyn turned his red cheek slowly back to look at Lara with unseeing eyes. It was strange to see Lara look so scared.

Wyn suddenly lashed out and pushed Lara back shouting, "WHY?! Why can't you accept me? I've always been like this! You never used to mind before so why? Why now? Is it because Dad and Warren died? Is it because you never saw me shed a tear for them? Is that why you hate me? MOM ANSWER ME!"

Lara said as she pushed him back, "What the hell is wrong with you? I'm not your mom! Get away from me you psycho!" Wyn blinked as tears slipped down his face.

The dam in Ciaran broke loose.

Ciaran growled as he made his way over to Lara and slapped her. Lara looked at him in shock. Ciaran said angrily, "You had no right to hit him or say that!"

Lara said, "He's crazy. Let him go Ciaran."

Ciaran slowly took a deep breath and said, "Get out. I don't want to see you anymore. Leave before you piss me off some more."

Lara said, "Ciaran, he's not sane. He'll hurt you."

Ciaran shouted, "What the fuck does it matter to you? You don't know him. You judge him based on the image you see of him but you don't take the time to get to know him. I'm sick of you trying to hook me up with your cousin. He's nice. He's sweet. But it's never going to happen all right? It's my love life and I'll deal with it as I see fit. Until you start seeing things from my perspective, I don't want you coming over here anymore. And if you can't get over yourself, then I don't need you as a friend anymore."

Lara said quietly, "Fine, I'll leave, but he goes too." She pointed at Wyn, who was standing still in a daze.

Ciaran said, "You're not in the position to negotiate. Wyn stays."

Lara said with narrowed eyes, "Why?"

Ciaran resisted the urge to growl and said in a slow biting tone, "I don't need to tell you why but I will. One, you fucked him up emotionally. I need to make him feel better. Two, he's staying here for the holidays with approval from both Abigail and myself."

Lara said incredulously, "He's staying here? Doesn't he have his own apartment? Why is he staying here?"

Ciaran said in an icy tone, "He's staying here because he's wanted here. He's staying here in my room, in my bed. I don't give a fuck about what you think. Are you leaving yet?"

Lara looked at him with her mouth open in shock, and her cousin tugged on her sleeve. He said gently, "Lara let's go. We shouldn't have come here in the first place."

Lara looked at Henry and said, "But –"

Henry shook his head and said, "No buts. I'm not really into breaking up couples. I only went along with this because you're family. You shouldn't have said those things or slapped Wyn. To be honest, you've been an extreme bitch today. We should go before things get worse and your friendship is unsalvageable."

Lara shut her mouth and clamped her lips together tightly with a pensive look on her face. She said, "Fine. We'll leave." She and Henry made their way out the door, and Ciaran shut it without saying anything.

He turned to Wyn, who was seemingly normal now.

Ciaran scowled and said what Wyn felt were dreaded words, "Wyn, we need to talk."

Whoot! End of this chapter! x.x Ya know how I said I wanted to change Wyn's mom into a nice mom? Ugh. Screw it. XD I'll let the story flow the way it wants to. I should talk less eh? I like to hear myself talk. I try to be cool but that's a futile attempt because I'll always be a walking talking wired chatterbox. Anywho, I've got a third of the next chapter done … so hopefully it won't take too long to post it. (I had this chapter written early last month. ) Also got the rest of the story planned out so … maybe I'll be able to finish soon. Maybe.

Fanfare: here ya go, on a silver platter.

Edana: I'm glad you like the story because it's honestly not turning out the way I was vaguely imagining it in my mind. It's not that bad because I still love it. P More drama. Oh no! Whenever shall the humor return! (or as the British say: humour)

Jiro: I think I've an idea how to adapt but that's an iffy. Hee, I like Abigail too. She didn't get any screen time this chapter. x Actually neither did Meesha. Shucks.

Cygna-hime: you are so evil lol. I wonder if this chapter and the next chapter counts as angst. I see it more as drama. X.x; Man I love Ciaran lol. He's so different from what I initially imagined but at least I got the backbone part right. XD

Gilded Muse: thanks for reading up to chapter 2. )

Thanks for reviewing everyone.
