On this night
There was a drive home
The endless road and a cold steel sky
On this night
There was choked laughter
And a phone call to cancel my work hours
On this night
There were memories I've wanted
To forget, but never will
On this night
There was hot bath water
And shaving foam that sucked moisture from my hands
On this night
There was a compulsion
To see my own blood, that I banished
On this night
Came my recovery
From all the wounds you left me with on an evening such as this
In the not so distant past
Another place, another frame of mind
That can be dissolved
Like the raindrops from my sky
The hours I won't teach
The bathwater I drain
Until all that remains solid
Is the life I choose to live
For me.
