Jordan stared at the building in front of him. It figured she would live in a place as nice as this.
He had come into town the night before, and decided he was going to wait until the next night to talk to Serenity. That night was now here. He took a deep breath and walked into the building.
Serenity stepped out of the shower and pulled her short silk bathrobe on. She squeezed her hair out, and let it hang in wet strands around her face.
She heard a knock on the door and groaned. Loxy was out, so now Serenity had to deal with some idiot at the door by herself.
She tied the belt on her bathrobe and walked to the door. She opened it up and her heart seemed to do flip-flops.
"Jordan," she whispered. "Uh…come in."
He followed her inside and to the living room. They sat down on the couch and Serenity clasped her hands together in her lap.
"So, how have you been?" Jordan asked.
Serenity knew this was the perfect time to tell him. "Um…pregnant."
Jordan blinked once and stared at her. "M-mine?"
She nodded. Jordan's eyes widened and he let out a deep breath. "Wow."
Serenity let out a shaky breath, and avoided Jordan's eyes.
He moved closer to her and gently took her hands in his.
"Ser, look at me."
She turned to face him and stared in his eyes.
"I'm not walking away from this-from you again. I love you, Serenity."
"Jordan-"
"No. Let me finish. Please," he said. "I love you. I love everything about you. You're the sweetest person. You know everything about me. You know my crazy quirks, everything that annoys me. You know what I've been through, and you've loved me despite all my faults."
Tears streamed down Serenity's cheeks.
"You're the best thing that's ever happened in my life. I've loved you since that first day I met you at the park. Thoughts of you is what kept me going when I was all alone for so many years. There were so many times I just wanted to come home and wrap you up in my arms.
"I wanted to be the one you would run to when you were scared. The one you could cling to when you needed to hold on. The one you could tell your dreams and fears to. I wanted to be that guy. And I still do.
"I want to be the one you share the rest of your life with. The one who can say he's the father of your children. I want to be the one who's there when you need to cry, or scream, or even laugh."
Serenity bit her lip and tried to stop the tears.
"I want to be around every minute of every day for the child inside you. I want to see you lying next to me when I wake up every morning and I want you with me every night when I go to sleep. I want to help you raise this child, and other children we'll have."
He brought her hands to his lips and kissed them gently. Serenity sniffled as Jordan reached into his pocket to pull out the ring box.
"So," he said his voice shaky, "I'm going to ask you again. Will you marry me, Serenity? Will you spend the rest of your life with me?"
Serenity leaned forward and wrapped her arms tightly around Jordan's neck. "Yes," she whispered through her tears. "Yes, I will."
Jordan's own tears spilled over as he placed a long kiss on Serenity's lips. He took her left hand and placed the ring on her finger.
"I love you, Jordan." He tightened his arms around her waist and held her close to him.
"I love you too Serenity."
Loxy walked into the apartment to find Serenity and Jordan cuddled together on the couch.
"Well, well, well," she said with a grin. "What do we have here?"
Serenity smiled widely at her. "We're engaged."
"That's great!" Loxy exclaimed rushing over to give them both hugs. "I'm so happy for you guys!"
She sat down next to Serenity. "So, where do you guys plan on living?"
Jordan smiled at Serenity. "We're going to find a house around here somewhere."
Loxy laughed and gave Serenity another hug. "Good! So I won't lose my best friend!"
Serenity laughed with her. "You wouldn't have lost me anyway."
"So when's the wedding?"
"Well, we went to get married before the baby is born," Jordan said. "So…two weeks from tomorrow."
"Wow," Loxy stated. "You know what this means, right?"
"What?" Serenity asked.
Loxy groaned. "I have to find a new room mate."
Serenity laughed and looked over at Jordan. He was smiling and laughing. She glanced down at the ring on her finger and smiled. This was right. This was how everything was always meant to be. Jordan and Serenity. Serenity and Jordan. Together.
She let out a content sigh and rested her head on Jordan's shoulder. Everything was perfect.
