Loved Forever

[Chapter One] Ω [Chapter One] ~

Caelyn Loretta Fields smiled as she flipped her straight brown hair back over one shoulder. It was the last day of school for Kennedy Secondary College, and sixteen-year-old Caelyn was standing in the near empty corridor after school with her friends.

"So, what do you think?" Jeremy Angrove was asking with a laugh, as he leaned back against the cool locker doors. Caelyn raised an eyebrow and smirked.

"Well, I don't know… it could be fun…"

"'Could be'?" Jeremy repeated with mock surprise, "are you kidding me? It's the grand opening tonight, they've got a whole range of bands lined up to play!"

He was talking about the new underage nightclub opening in the city that night, Butterfly. His sister was close friends with the manager, and could get him and some friends onto the VIP list if they wanted.

"Butterfly?" Lalitha Holden asked in her loud, confident voice, "who would name their club 'Butterfly'? Honestly!"

"Honestly?" Jeremy laughed, "well…"

Caelyn had to grin as Lalitha and Jeremy continued to bicker playfully. She was glad that the holidays were here at last, but she would miss Lalitha and Jeremy's daily morning arguments. Shaking her head, she was about to step in and break up the bickering, when she spotted a familiar figure walking down the hallway. Her grin widening even more. About to wave to Kyle MacKay, she stopped herself just in time, realising that he had his back turned to her and was walking in the opposite direction.

"Hey, you okay, Fields?" Corina Schneider asked Caelyn.

"Huh?" Caelyn asked distractedly, as she watched Kyle walk away from her and into an empty classroom. For the past few weeks, she had noticed that her boyfriend had been acting a bit distant lately. Rolling her eyes, she told herself that she was being paranoid. She had been going out with Kyle MacKay for one year now, and they were labeled one of the most perfect couples in Kennedy Secondary. Handsome, basketball captain, Kyle MacKay and free-spirited Caelyn Fields...

"Oh, give Jeremy a break…" Caelyn interrupted one of Lalitha's arguments with a laugh, taking her mind off Kyle and returning back to the current quarrel. Lalitha gave her friend a light shove and continued her attack on Jeremy. Caelyn shifted her backpack around on her shoulders and pulled down on her short plaid skirt a bit. She loved the school, but sometimes the uniforms really got to her.

"Jan's been a complete ice bitch this year…" Corina muttered to Caelyn in a low voice. Surprised at where the comment came from, she turned around in time to see Jan Rogers walk across the hallway. Frowning, Caelyn watched as the resident flirt looked at her watch and walked into the empty classroom.

Or not so empty anymore, Caelyn thought bitterly. What was her boyfriend doing, meeting Jan Rogers in an empty classroom after school? Shaking her head, she made some vague excuse about double-checking that she took everything from her locker.

"Sure thing, Fields. But makes sure you come straight back, otherwise we might start to worry that something's happened to you!" Jeremy joked. Caelyn forced a small smile as she walked off down the hall.

"Whatever you say, Jer," she called back over her shoulder.

Lalitha looked back at Jeremy's smiling face as Caelyn walked away and hit him lightly on the arm, "that was a lousy attempt at a joke"

He laughed, "oh… I'd like to see you try and do better"

"You know, I'm not too sure about this…" Kyle muttered, smoothing back his blonde hair with one hand. He was leaning against one of the desks in the classroom with Jan Rogers sitting on his lap. Jan giggled.

"Oh, what's wrong with you today?" she asked, wrapping her arms around his neck, "you said you've broken it up with Caelyn already, so why are you still holding back?"

Kyle attempted one of his famous smiles as he kissed the top of Jan's nose. Jan pulled back almost straight away, "oh my god… you haven't broken up with her yet, have you?"

"What are you talking about?" Kyle laughed, "of course I have!"

Jan pouted, "no. No, you haven't! You bastard, you told me that you'd break up with her at Jordan's party last Saturday!"

Kyle sighed and leaned back. "Give me a break," he mumbled, "Caelyn's not an easy girl to break up with, okay…?"

"No, it's not okay," Jan growled, "I'm sick of sneaking around"

"It's never stopped you before," Kyle snapped back, before immediately regretting it, "I'm sorry, Jan… you know I don't mean that. I'm just in a tense mood right now"

Not convinced, Jan crossed her arms and leant back against the teacher's desk, facing Kyle. "Why haven't you broken up with her yet?" she demanded in an icy voice.

Seeing that she wasn't going to let this go, Kyle glanced out the window and ignored her question.

Getting more annoyed by the minute, Jan tossed her head impatiently, "you can't tell me that you're worried about breaking her heart… god, what sap. She has a heart made from ice, the stupid bitch"

"Watch it," Kyle warned in a low voice.

"Oh… sticking up for your girlfriend, how sweet," Jan spat, "but we all know that it takes a lot more than a break up to break that girl down. Don't overestimate yourself, MacKay, you're hot… but she'll get over you"

Kyle didn't trust himself to say anything back to her. In truth, he had no idea what he was doing with Jan Rogers in the first place. Gorgeous, smart and confident, with her shiny chestnut hair and sparkling eyes, who wouldn't want to date Caelyn Loretta Fields?

"You're not in love with her, are you?" Jan asked incredulously.

Kyle thought about that for a second, was he? He was pretty sure that he wasn't… if he was, then what was he doing with Jan? No. He wasn't in love with her… the only reason they had stayed together this long, was because it gave him some sort of power to know that he was dating the one girl every guy wanted to date and every girl wanted to be. That was also the only reason he hadn't broken it up with her yet. Did he really want to give all of that up?

He sighed, and reached out to Jan, "come here, baby"

Jan eyed him wearily, "what?"

Grinning, he stood up and walked over to the head cheerleader. Standing over her, he wrapped his arms around her waist and leaned in close. Kissing her neck, he dropped his voice to a low husk, "I'll break up with her the very next time I see her, okay?"

Jan laughed lightly, "you promise?"

"Uh-huh…" Kyle smiled, glad she wasn't mad at him anymore, "I promise"

"Good," she said coldly, with a tight smile, "because here's your chance"

Kyle looked up confused at Jan, "what?"

Jan didn't say anything, but stared pointedly over Kyle's shoulder. Suddenly dreading what was coming next, he turned slowly to see Caelyn Fields leaning against the doorway with her arms crossed. Dressed in her short navy uniform with her hair out around her shoulders, she looked perfect as usual. But instead of looking pissed off, like he thought she would, Caelyn had an amused look on her face. Somehow, this made it ten times worse.

"I'm sorry, was I interrupting something?" she asked, with an eyebrow raised. Kyle cringed at her calm voice. He wished that she would just start screaming and shouting at him, it would make it so much easier to break up with her if they had a shouting match, he may even be able to turn it all into her fault.

"I…" Kyle hesitated, suddenly realising that he had no intention of breaking it off with Caelyn. Though Jan was right, unlike most girls, it would take a whole lot more than his breaking up with her to turn her into a blubbering mess. And though he had never admitted it, that was one of the things he admired about Caelyn. Her confidence, charisma and ability to stay calm without making a scene when something goes wrong, like now.

When no one answered her question, Caelyn gave a hollow laugh, "shall I take that as a 'yes'?"

"Yes, I think so," Jan answered sweetly. Kyle turned to glare at her, why did she always try and make things more complicated?

Caelyn ignored Jan and looked straight at Kyle. "I hope you have a great summer, Kyle… I'll let you two get back to whatever you were doing and I'm going to find some people who actually care about others" she said in a mild voice, as she began walking away.

"Good luck with that, sweetheart," Jan called after her. Caelyn flipped her off without turning back, and continued walking.

Laughing, Jan turned back to Kyle with a triumphant look on her face, "well… I think that went off well, don't you? One thing you have to admire about Fields… she knows how to keep her cool"

Kyle said nothing for a moment and continued staring off after Caelyn.

Rolling her eyes, Jan ran a hand through his hair and kissed his cheek, "now, where were we?"

"Hey Fields!" Lalitha called as she spotted Caelyn walking back towards them, "what took you so long?"

"Yeah," Jeremy laughed, "we were going to send a search party out for you"

"Ha… ha?" Caelyn grinned half-heartedly.

Rolling his eyes, Jeremy ignored her and continued, "we've finally decided that we're going to catch to go to the new restaurant in the city and then we're going to catch a movie. What do you want to watch?"

"Actually, I don't feel up to doing anything tonight… where's Corina?"

"She's off with Roger. They're meeting up with us later tonight," Lalitha answered, "you've got to come tonight, it's never any fun without you… Bring Kyle if you want?"

Before she could reply to that, the three of them turned at the sound of someone calling out down the corridor.

"Hey, Fields! Please, I need to talk to you!"

Caelyn swore as she spotted Kyle running down the corridor towards them. Lalitha and Jeremy stared between the two of them, confused.

"What the hell is going on?" Lalitha asked.

"Do me a favour, tell Kyle that I want nothing to do with him," Caelyn said as she began walking down the corridor, "and I'm sorry I can't make it tonight. I'll call you guys later, okay?"

Before they could reply, Caelyn had pushed open the school doors and walked out of there.

"Fields! Caelyn… wait, please!" Kyle called, only to be stopped by Jeremy.

"Hey man, what's going on?" he asked. Kyle glared at Jeremy.

"It's none of your damn business if I want to talk to my own girlfriend"

"Ex-girlfriend" a voice said from behind them. Lalitha froze at that voice.

"Shit. What do you want, Jan?" she asked, without bothering to turn around.

"I thought you wanted to know what was going on?" Jan replied, innocently, "you do want to know, don't you?"

"Shut up, Jan," Kyle growled.

"Oh no… I don't think so, MacKay. You see, no one walks out on me"

"What?"

"You're a fool, Kyle. If you had just broken up with her before, like I asked… she wouldn't have had to find out about us"

"Us?" Jeremy echoed, standing between the two of them. Shaking his head, he grabbed Lalitha's arm, "these two obviously have some issues to sort out, let's go…"

Lalitha let herself be dragged halfway to do the doors before stopping.

"Lalitha, what are you doing?" Jeremy groaned, not liking all the drama going on.

"I want to hear this"

"What? Oh, come on… it's none of our business"

"If it's concerns Caelyn, then of course it's our business," she snapped back.

Kyle glared at Jan, oblivious to the fact that Lalitha and Jeremy were still down the corridor.

"You bitch," he snapped, "you've been trying to break Caelyn and I up ever since we got together!"

Jan laughed nastily, "don't let your head get too big, MacKay. It's not my fault that you went about cheating on your girlfriend. I mean, god… how stupid can you get? If I were a guy and dating Caelyn, I wouldn't let anyone ruin that. Though, I am flattered"

Kyle was speechless for a second, "I broke up with her for you!"

"You broke up with her?" Jan repeated, "I wish! No, if you had… none of this would've even happened. I was doing you a favour"

"How were you doing me a favour?"

"Think about it, Einstein. If you were truly happy with her, what the hell were you doing with me for the past few weeks?"

Hearing a loud swear down the hall, Jan and Kyle turned to see Lalitha with a stormy look in her eyes. While Caelyn kept calm and cool, her best friend was quick to anger. Jeremy wasn't too happy with what he just heard either, but he kept his head.

"I think we should leave Kyle and Jan alone, Lalitha… let's get out of here," he muttered, taking Lalitha by the arm and walking out of the school. Realising his mistake, Kyle glared at Jan.

She smiled, "oops… did they just happen to overhear everything we just said?"

"If you weren't a girl, I'd beat you up like there was no tomorrow," he warned her. Jan just continued to smile, not intimidated in the slightest.

"I know"
