AUTHOR'S NOTE: As promised, I am now back to working on this story now! Sooooo sorry for the extremely long wait guys, I apologize. I've just now managed to get over my writer's block. Thanks to everyone who reviewed, and everyone who has stuck with this story since the beginning – even if the update times are sooooo long overdue!

Please note: For those who may be a bit confused, I have changed this story's name. Previously titled "My Not So Normal Life", it is now titled "My Life, and the Ways I Try to Live It".

Without any further ado, here is Chapter 5!

When he came back, we had a lengthy, decent conversation about his family, and the rest of mine that I hadn't talked about beforehand. I told him of my male dependent mother, her religious zealot personality, and of my baby brother, Trent. I almost considered mentioning that I had stumbled across his journal, but decided against it. In mid-conversation, Sean's mother came up to his room and knocked on the door, before quietly entering.

"Hey boys…. Aren't you going to eat dinner? It's seven thirty already. I don't know about you Emmett, but Sean has usually already eaten dinner by this time." Mrs. Larsen said with a small guffaw.

Was it really seven thirty already? Had we really been talking that long? Apparently, we had. Wow. Time just flew by when I was spending it with Sean.

"We'll eat sooner or later, Ma." Sean answered her.

"All right." She answered. "Oh, and by the way, your father and I will be going out for a drink tonight – then we'll be going with a few friends up to their house a couple towns away in Wilmington. By time the night's over, none if us will be in any condition to drive, so we'll probably be staying at their house for the night. You boys will have to hold the fort down." She said with a smile.

"What about Larry?" Sean asked.

"He's staying at his friend Todd's for the weekend, no need to worry about him. You guys have got the house all to yourselves tonight." She answered.

"All right." Sean said.

Within the next hour or so, his parents were gone and he and I were downstairs in the kitchen searching for something to have for dinner. Sean was rummaging through the cupboards, apparently searching for specific items.

"I think we have…"

"What?" I asked.

"Yes! We do have everything needed for this. Emmett, you go out in the living room and relax, I will prepare dinner tonight." He told me.

"But what are we going to be having?" I asked inquisitively.

"You'll see." He said with a big grin. "It's my specialty dish, you'll love it, I guarantee."

"If you say so…" I responded suspiciously and made my way into their living room.

Their living room was huge, by far the biggest room in the house. A beautiful black velvet sectional sofa, a glass coffee table, brand new elegantly shampooed ocean blue rug, and a giant crystal chandelier hanging overhead. It may have been the most gorgeous room I have ever seen. Very spacious as well. It looked as though a couple teams could round up and play a good-natured football game in that room.

After marveling at the loveliness of the room, I planted myself on the sofa and grabbed the remote, flipping through channels. I settled on one of my favorite TV shows, Crime Scene Investigation, and watched intently. After a short while, Sean emerged in the room.

"Well, everything's set and cooking. Now all we have to do is wait for that timer to go off, and I promise you, you'll have a home cooked delicacy of a meal." He smiled.

"Don't stroke your ego too much there, Sean." I replied with a small smirk. Sean chuckled and set next to me on the sofa.

"What do you say we look in the local paper and see which movie we want to go to tonight?" He asked.

"Good plan." I answered.

We scanned through all the available movie titles playing in the nearby theater, evaluating the pros and cons of each individual movie, before in the end deciding that they all… well, sucked.

"We can just stay in tonight then and hang out, have fun. It's not like we'll be bothering anyone, anyway." Sean said.

"Yeah, I wouldn't mind that." I told him.

"Hey, what's that in the window?" He asked, pointing to the right of me. I turned my head foolishly, and he took the opportunity to capitalize. As soon as my eyes were off him, he snatched the television remote control from my lap and switched the channel to Law and Order.

He laughed at my gullibility.

"Hey!" I shouted playfully.

"I can't believe you fell for that." He said.

"Give me the remote back!" I exclaimed with a smile, holding back laughter at my own stupidity. Sean got up off the sofa and went running across the living room.

"Oh no, Emmett, I'm gonna make it difficult for you… come get it." He said, wide-eyed and smiling.

"Okay, well, you asked for it." I warned. I went running at him and with all my strength, tackled him to the ground and straddling him, snatching at the remote. He wouldn't stay still though, he kept squirming and fidgeting and just wouldn't give in. Finally, I grabbed his wrists and pinned them down to the floor, forcing him to drop the remote. I looked down at him, into his pearl blue eyes, his smile wide, happiness showing through. Just seeing him smile made me smile as well. I wanted so badly to loosen my grip on him, run my hands through his hair, and kiss him…. Kiss him ever so softly, gently… to feel his lips pressed against mine. Slowly, I moved in on him, began to move my head down. But, fear getting the best of me, I stopped. Suddenly, I began to worry – I hadn't been paying attention! What if my little "friend" had decided to pop up right around now? Oh god…. Just the thought of that was nearly mortifying to me. As nonchalantly as I could, I glanced down to see if my mortification was becoming imminent or not. However, when I looked down, I was indeed surprised – not by my own body's reactions, but rather Sean's! When I looked down, I saw a standing tall bulge in Sean's black Silvertab jeans. Wanting to keep from embarrassing him any more than he probably already was, I took my eyes off of his lower extremities and locked eyes with him again. Slowly, I began to release my grip on his wrists. The remote control was obviously not the focus of all this anymore. Again, I started lowering my head, bringing it closer to his, still wanting to express my feelings with a kiss. But, again, I stopped. As I began to bring my hands up off of his wrists, he grabbed me in mid motion and pulled them back down to his hands, taking mine into his, our fingers interlocking. I think he must have been able to see the passion in my eyes. Because the next thing he said was like a dream to me.

"Go ahead, Emmett. I can see you want to, I see it in your eyes. Go ahead, kiss me, Emmett." He told me. The heavenly sound of his voice seduced me just enough to overcome my fears, bring my lips down to his, and gently press them together. I felt the enormous amount of electricity pass through my body, and I'm almost positive he felt it as well. I separated one of my hands from his and brought it up to his head, ruffling his

soft, sandy blonde hair and feeling it move over my palm and through the spaces in my fingers and our kiss continued. The massaging of his lips from mine was arousing the both of us more and more, the feeling of our bodies so close together, the heat between us increasing. Finally, we broke our union of emotion apart to get a nice breather. I could feel his breath, warm and heavy, as I'm sure he could feel mine as well. After a few more seconds, Sean began bringing his head up to mine, and we were once again about to lock into our union, but were interrupted suddenly by the piercing, shrill sound of his timer going off in the kitchen. Dinner was done.

I looked toward the kitchen and slowly got up off of Sean. I stood for a moment, waiting for Sean to get up, but Sean lay there, unmoving, with that blissful smile on his face.

Suddenly I jolted on the couch and sat up, opening my eyes. I heard the familiar, shrill, shrieking sound of the timer as Sean called out:

"Emmett! Dinner's ready!"

I stayed seated on the couch for a moment, confused. Then, the realization dawned on me – it had been a dream. A simple dream. Damnit. It had seemed so real…

Disappointed, I picked myself up off the couch and headed into the kitchen, where Sean was setting plates.

"You looked so peaceful sleeping on the couch, I didn't want to disturb you until I absolutely had to, so I didn't wake you up until Dinner was done." Sean said with a smile.

Sean pulled open the oven door, and, oven mitts in place, removed the main course of dinner from the oven. It was sizzling, signifying its cooked state. The heavenly smell wafted around the kitchen, eventually reaching my nose. Intrigued, I walked over to see what the smell was. Haddock. Baked haddock. That's why it smelled so damn good!

I love haddock! It's my favorite dinner. But I never told Sean… how would he have known? Have I mentioned it to him and forgotten? Is my memory that bleak?

Shrugging it off, I looked to the stovetop and saw a boiling pot. I wondered what was in there. If the haddock was any indication, then I knew what should be in there… yes! It is! It's fettuccini Alfredo pasta! My favorite side dish with my favorite dinner! Good god, is Sean reading my mind or what?

"Oh my god Sean… this is my most favorite meal in the world.." I trailed off, almost in heaven.

"Are you kidding me? What luck! This is my specialty dish!" He exclaimed.

With a smile I sat down at the dining table and prepared myself for my most favorite meal in the world. Sean served everything up, and sat down across from me. It was just then that the kitchen light went out, unexpectedly. Sean looked up and sighed.

"Damn light bulb. Hold on a minute Emmett, I'll go into the closet and see if we have any fresh light bulbs… this one must have blown." He said.

Without waiting for my response, he got up and headed for the nearest closet. The dinner in front of me smelled so delicious and looked so tempting, but I politely held back my urges to eat and waited for Sean to return. When he did, he did not come bearing light-giving gifts.

"No light bulbs?" I asked.

"No, we're all out… but I just got an idea."

He quickly ran from the room and re-entered with candles and a lighter in hand. He set two candles opposite each other in the center of the table and lit them with the lighter. He then took his seat across from me at the table. It was at that moment that a certain thought hit me.

Here I am, sitting at the dinner table with Sean, my favorite dinner cooked and ready, candles lit…. it's almost romantic… a romantic candle lit dinner… with Sean… with Sean, it's almost paradise.

"What are you smiling at?" He asked curiously.

I hadn't realized that I had been so openly smiling whilst this thought occurred.

"Oh, it's nothing." I said, smiling weakly.

Sean looked at me curiously, but didn't press any further. The dinner was delicious, the best I had had in weeks, months even. Of course, that was probably due to the fact that I hate cooking, and my father was never home to make anything… not like he would anyway.

When we finished up eating, Sean gathered up the dishes and cleaned up the kitchen.

"So, what movie shall we go see tonight?" He asked.

Furrowing my brow in confusion for just a moment, I quickly snapped out of it when I remembered that we had only cancelled the movie plans in my dream.

"Oh… hmmm…" I trailed off, trying to think of a good movie. Truth be told, I didn't really care what movie we saw… as long as I was with Sean.

"I've wanted to see the new Lord of the Rings movie." Sean said.

I smiled in response. "Okay, we'll go see that then." I answered him. "But, before we go, I really should freshen up. Mind if I use your bathroom and shower?" I asked.

"Go ahead, it's no problem." Sean told me.

I got up from the table, heading to the bathroom, my mind racing. This was like… my first 'date' with Sean. Although, I couldn't really call it a date, could I? Since he didn't have a clue that I might consider it that…. And sure, he may like me, but he has no clue how I feel about him. I think I'll call it an 'unofficial date', whatever that means. Whatever it was, I knew one thing. For the first time in a long time, I was happy.
