Part 1
" Go to the park Aris."
I turned over restlessly and groaned, my eyes focusing to the darkness that surrounded me like a black bubble. It was 2:30 in the morning, or so my clock flashed in bright red that seared my vision. I rolled my eyes and sat up, pushing the covers off disdainfully. Shivering, I padded silently as a shadow to my drawers.
Not wanting to go anywhere in my pajamas, then again, who would during November, I swapped my fleecy pajama bottoms for navy blue jeans, and my t- shirt for a black and red long sleeved shirt. As I was pulling a red and black sweatshirt over my head, my cell phone rang, the ring tone breaking the silence I had enjoyed. Balancing on one foot, I groped to find it like a blind squirrel.
" Stupid phone." I muttered darkly, hitting the 'yes' button, " Hello?"
" Hurry up Aris, you should be here. Come to the park." The voice was different from the one that usually, and rudely interrupted my thoughts. It was raspier, like sandpaper on a chain. But I dismissed it for now.
"Okay! Okay!" I said, starting to get annoyed, whether from the lack of sleep or the pushiness of this unknown person, I did not know.
Grabbing a hair clip I fastened my hair up, and snuck out, remembering to clip my belt of weapons as I left my room. I had no fear of waking my mother up, for my mother understood night hunting, as she often did it herself. And the other reason was that she didn't live with us anyway. Instead, my grandmother, who is a very heavy sleeper, and my older brother, also a heavy sleeper, lived with me. Why didn't my mother live with me? I guess I haven't let on much about my kind, have I?
My footsteps made no sound as I patrolled the house. My heart pounded in my chest, blood throbbing in my ears.
MoonWalkers are not demons. In fact, they are ruled by the Lady, not the lord, and they come from Moonland, not the Shadowland. They are trained not to feel fear, however, they can sense it. Stronger at night, they have night vision, probably due to their gold eyes. They all use weapons, and most, like myself, favor the long moon sword.
The MoonWalkers have many laws and rules. These are called the Code of the Unknown Face. Also, there is no dominant, ruling gender in our race. This is because they elect a matriarch or patriarch depending on whom the clan sees fit to lead the clan. There was no bias towards one gender or the other, for only the strongest was chosen, male or female, female or male. Some male MoonWalkers were stronger than some female MoonWalkers, but some female MoonWalkers were stronger than males, and so the world turns round and round.
My mother was one such chosen. I was the matriarch's daughter, the one she chose as the heiress to the leading spot. I could be contended with for power by one of my relatives, and if they won, I would lose the spot. Under this practice, it made sure that only the strong would dominate, regardless of gender. As Matriarch's daughter, I had many responsibilities and positions. It was no easy job believe me. One such position was a member of the council of Noom.
The council of Noom was made up of eleven representatives from eleven of the most powerful clans. With me being the matriarch's daughter, I was the prime choice in the eyes of the clan. And my mother. Lucky me I guess.
I opened the door and slunk out, shivering a little at the cold wind that slashed at my face like a searing knife. Pulling on a pair of sneakers, I loosely tied the laces, and watched as they flopped like dead snakes. I stood up and scouted around. Silence. Dead silence. No crickets chirping, no animal noises. Nothing. Just the howling of a bitter and angry wind. I stared blankly at a lone leaf dancing on the road in front of my house, its little brown body twirling amid the pit-holes of night just managing to steer clear of the shadows. The absence of animal sounds meant something for me.
I ran, because I didn't feel like walking, or my cold body wouldn't accept walking, and pushed me to go faster to keep myself from dying of hypothermia.
I reached the park and walked in, my eyes sweeping left and right. The tall trees stood rigid like soldiers, waiting, always waiting. Their shadows hid all, and kept the moon from shedding its light into every corner. It was quiet here. Too quiet. Quiet enough that you could hear a pin drop, and still hear the echo. I took a step. It sounded hollow .A breath, its sound rattling around in my head. Another step. Another breath. A step, a breath, a step, a breath. All of a sudden, I heard a voice.
~* So what did you think? Please review for the first part. I'd really appreciate it, and besides, I tend to go and review for stories with a positive attitude for people who review. Yeah this fic is less descriptive that the first story, but right now she's having a lot more action, and so in keeping her on her toes, I had to cut the description just a bit. * sniff, sniff* I'm quite pleased with how the sequel is turning out as of now. And because Outlaw is sooooooo great and sooooooo impatient, I guess the second part will be coming out in a few days. And as a note before I go, if you haven't already figured it out, this first part is dedicated to my traveling buddy*grins*. Don't worry, I think all my reviewers are the best, because they're cool like that. FYI, next part has a very interesting encounter with a *****. Until next time then! Outlaw ur the best! ( and you'd better give me a good review for the part dedicated to you!) *~
