I slid my black headphones off my neck and onto my head, then pressed the buttons. In an instant Social Distortion filled my ears, and I wrapped my arms around myself as I started the walk home from school. My dumb Chemistry teacher had given me a detention for, and I quote, "Disrupting the peace". I honestly didn't even do anything this time. It would have been better if I could actually have been with the OTHER detention kids, but no, I had to go to the Chem room.

Two painfully long hours of absolutely nothing. You know how detention is made for homework? Well Mr. Russell decided that it would be a positive thing for me, so I couldn't do my homework. I had to sit completely still, doing nothing. Just when I thought I was going to seriously explode into a million pieces, Miss Turner came up to tell me my 2 hours was finally up.

"OK, I am SO gone" I exclaimed and bolted for the door.

"Kassie, I'm expecting a 1,000 word essay on why nobody should have chains, piercings, tattoos, and listen to hard punk rock music, or any other satanic things" Mr. Russell's annoying scratchy voice filled the room, and I groaned not even slowing down on my sprint out of there.

Now it was about what, 5:00? I still had to go home do all my homework, clean up the house, help Mike cook dinner, all on top of baby- sitting my next-door neighbor's little 5-year-old kid, Anthony. Isn't it illegal to over-work a teenager? Isn't it like violating those child-labor laws? All right so maybe it wasn't that bad. Then, someone calling my name interrupted my thoughts. I pulled the headphones down around my neck and turned around. It was Joel.

"Uh, hey Joel. What are you still doing around here?" I asked curious.

"Eh, detention, you know that whole 'disrupting the peace' rule." He laughed shaking his head at the absurdity of how strict the rule is. Then he asked me, "you get detention too?" when I nodded he went on, "what were you in for?"

"Disrupting the peace," I croaked mocking my science teacher and making the quote things with my fingers. "Mr. Russell didn't appreciate my eyebrow ring, and seeing the Social Distortion case with my stuff. I think that's like discrimination or something, but whatever, I just lost 2 hours of my day".

I turned and started walking and Joel came up following me. The wind started to blow, making it really cold. I guess it wasn't too bright to wear a plaid skirt and a black tank top in the fall. I forgot my coat in my locker and I couldn't get back into the school once I left. I wrapped my arms tighter around me, and turned my head to look at Joel, the wind blew my hair all over my face. He looked over and started laughing at me.

"Dude, shut up! So where do you live at? We're getting close to my place" I asked tucking the hair behind my ears, and he just grinned and laughed.

"I live the other was from school. I was just walking you home," he smiled and I laughed at him, "What can I say? I'm very gentleman like".

"Uh huh, I'm noticing. Anyway, that's my place right there," I said pointing and he looked over, "did you want to come in?"

"Wait, you live at 68147?" he put together slowly, "Dumas. wait, you're Mike's SISTER?"

I stood there looking at him for a second, and then nodded. I looked at him closer again, he looked really familiar. As we walked up to the door, it finally hit me. He was the one driving the other night when Mike came home completely drunk. I also remember Benji's hair. Wow, what a small world. OK wow that was really Barney.

I unlocked the door and stepped in, music was blasting from the living room and then we saw Mike come bounding through the doorway in only his white boxers with pink hearts. I started laughing and shook my head. Mike slid to a stop as he realized Joel was here too.

"Dude! What are you doing here?!"

"I walked Kassie home. Pink hearts dude?!" Joel cracked up pointing at Mike's boxers.

"Kassie got them for me, don't you just love them, thanks sis" he winked and blew a kiss at me in mock thankfulness. I did a fake laugh then gave him the finger. "What was that for?!"

"It's a symbol of my undying love for you" I laughed, grabbing 2 Sprites, and tossing one to Joel. Then I plopped down on the couch. A second later Joel sat down next to me. We pretty much just sat there not saying much, except little things about school, and he told me some of the stuff him and the guys have done. Some of it was really funny. He stayed only for about 45 minutes then decided he should go home.

"So. I'll see you at school tomorrow" he said putting his hands in the pockets of his jeans.

"Yep," I said leaning against the doorframe, "don't disrupt the peace anymore!" he shook his head laughing and walked down the steps, when he got to the end of it, he turned and looked at me, gave me a smile, and walked the rest of the way.

"Kassie likes Jooooeeeeel" Mike started chanting running around.

"Ugh no I don't, shut up loser!" I groaned and then went up stairs to get ready for Anthony to come over. It's going to be a really long night.
