The Recital

She sits
And her hands tense
When she needs them to relax the most
The notes try to swirl in her head
But cannot as they should
They sit lifeless on the page
Unmoving.
She looks at them
And hopes
That she will be able to see them
As they should be seen
Her hands raise to the keyboard
And she plays
Somehow getting through
Somehow doing well
And the audience claps
And she exits
While the next student sits
To perform their own piece
And the song
The song of nerves
Repeats itself again
