Louisiana (sinking)

I am sinking like Louisiana
your undertow tugs my silt away
grain by grain
backyard by backyard
turned into swamp

You panned for gold in my
waterlogged marsh
and found only the pebbles
and dirt you sucked
out to shore

I am sinking like Louisiana
dissolving like paper
floating along
the surface
of your water

You designed for me a place
at the bottom, in a state
of gradual washing away
the tug of the water so subtle
that I didn't realize

I am sinking like Louisiana
and I didn't even see
didn't even see it coming
until now, when half of me
is already sea
