Chapter One

Lori

I had woken up extra early that morning just to get ready. Grade eleven was going to be good. It took me somewhere around an hour and a half to get completely ready. My mom had let me take the car for the first day, and I was on the top of the world. Nothing, absolutely nothing, could bring me down. Then I found out I had to let Nick drive me to school instead. As if it wasn't enough that he went to the same school as me but just because he's one year older he takes the car from me.

The first year was getting adjusted. The second year was making new or more friends. The third year had to be good . . . right? The third year had to mean you were used to the school; you have your friends. What could go wrong?

"And so Lily told Erica that Jarred was her boyfriend, and of course Erica got jealous since you know they went out and-"

I slammed my locker door and faced my best friend Allie.

"And let me guess they got in this huge fight, Jarred found out about it and ditched them both? Did I get everything right?" I asked making sure I got every detail.

"Yeah, how'd you know?" She interrogated, clearly confused on how I already knew.

"I have talked to him over the summer."

"Oh . . . well did you hear about-"

"Rachel and Cody?" I smiled innocently.

"Oh my God! You like read my mind or something!"

I shook my head and laughed.

"Dearest Allie, you were always one for gossip. I just know you too well."

"Hold on. I'm thinking of a number. What is it?" She questioned as we headed towards our first period class, English. Yippee!

"Six." I stated.

"What the hell?! How did you know?" She screamed.

"It's your favorite number." I simply said.

"Okay, okay, now what?" She stared at me.

"Six."

"What are you psychic?!"

"No-"

"Tell me who I'm going to date next!"

"I told you I'm not a psychic!"

"Tell me who I'm going to date next." She pleaded.

"I don-Ow!" I said bumping into someone and falling on my bum. I looked up to find the gorgeous surfer babe, Tyler Metski.

"Tyler?" I stared up into his eyes.

Allie shrieked and I knew what she was thinking of. I rolled my eyes as I tried to gather my books that had fallen out of my hands. I had gathered my binder with my notebooks and agenda and was about to get on my knees to stand when I found a hand in front of my face.

"How was yoursummer, Lori?" I grabbed his hand and leaned into it as he helped me up.

"Summer . . . hmm . . ." I paused, just to bug people.

"Oh she's just kidding, she had a great summer. How was your summer Tyler?" Allie jumped in, yet again, flirting with Tyler. Great start to a year, don't you think? I decided to leave the flirting couple and walked off.

"Hey, Lori, wait up!" Tyler called after me. He completely abandoned Allie behind and began following me.

I rolled my eyes yet again and turned around coming face to face with someone's chest.

"Oof!" I exclaimed as the person collided into me.

I looked up to see who had run into me. Somebody pinch me because I think I'm dreaming! In front of me stood the most intriguing person I've ever seen. His chocolate brown eyes could melt any girl into a puddle of water. His sandy blonde hair and muscular body was enough to make me stare.

"Sorry." He quickly muttered not even looking at me and walked off. I watched him walk down the hall, gawking really, but he didn't know that!

"Lori," Tyler said bringing me back to reality. "Why'd you run off so quickly?"

"I'm sorry; I just really want to get to class before the bell rings.

And there it went, ringing like there was no tomorrow. Great, just my luck.

"Sorry, got to run!" I yelled looking over my shoulder as I left him standing there. This is such a good way to begin the school year: arriving to class late.

"Lori, wait up!" I heard Allie yelled to me.

"Catch up slow poke!" I laughed. At least I wouldn't be going down alone.

We walked into class to have everyone's eyes on us as we walked slowly, agonizingly slowly, towards our desks.

"How nice of you to join us Lori, Allie!" Mrs. Mantle greeted us, sarcastically. I've had this woman for every year since I was in grade nine, she's hated me every year since. Oooh this is going to be a long, LONG year!
