SAMY'S POINT OF VIEW
I tried not to spend so much time getting ready, but it was after all the first time I would be going out in awhile, and I wanted to look my best. I was thinking about how I would repay my mother for the favor, while putting on and old lip gloss I found in my dresser, when I heard a car beeping outside my door. I had completely forgotten I told Danny he could pick me up in ten minutes...that was ten minutes ago. I slipped on my shoes and grabbed my purse. He hadn't told me exactly where we were going (since he didn't really know himself) so I hoped I was well dressed for whatever it would be. I decided to wear black dress pants and an Asian sleeveless top. Just to be safe.
I said goodnight to my mother, Alex and Finn and darted out the door with jacket in hand. It was a beautiful evening, and my intuition told me it would continue to be.
I slid into the black Maxima and said hello politely to them both. Danny looked into the rear view mirror at me said hey and then stepped on the gas. "Mike this is Samy, Samy this is Mike." Danny said while keeping his eyes on the road.
"Hey Mike." I said, trying to be as sweet as I could be. Although I hated it, I had a feeling I wouldn't be able to act fake for long, it's not one of my better traits, I'm a very straight forward person. I would actually have to genuinely like the guy.
Mike turned his head to face me. "Hey how are you?" he said. Once I had seen his face I knew I wouldn't need to be fake for too long. Mike was just as good looking as I had hoped. With light brown hair and deep brown eyes, and a more then charming smile, he look so...guy-ish. There really was no other word to describe it. I guess manly is true too. But that word made me think of a dirty man working on a farm. I don't know why. Anyway, I had brain stormed through all these thoughts in a matter or seconds, he had just finished his sentence by the time I was done examining his flawless face.
"I'm good, you?" I said, still trying, to be as charming as a possible with a warm smile on my face.
"Same, so your from this town?"
"Yeah, rather unfortunately I guess." I answered sarcastically, but sweetly. I was beginning to sicken myself. No way are you gonna stoop so low...since when exactly do I drool over guys. Never.
"Actually I think it's a pretty nice place, if knowing everyone's name doesn't drive you insane. Besides, it's got a lot of history behind it."
"Well, the whole thing about knowing everyone's names. It does drive you insane eventually. But, exactly what history is behind this...black hole of a town." I replied. Much more satisfied with my answer, I was going back to being me, not some girl trying to get a guy's attention. I wouldn't let that happen. He chuckled at my answer.
"Try not to have so much home-town-pride." He said sarcastically. "As for the history, I guess I wont get into too much detail about it now, but basically, there was a town built here when white people just started settling the area, some interesting stuff happened. If you want I'll explain it full-out later."
"Sure." I said positively. I wasn't amazed by history or anything, but it couldn't hurt just to know right? I turned to Danny, who had been silent through the whole conversation. "So where are we headed to upon this lovely eve?" I said in a sophisticated voice.
Danny quickly glanced at the rear-view mirror, his eyes looking straight into mine through the reflection in the glass. "We're going to the nearest city. We'll check it out, see if theirs anything to do. If not we'll just go to the next city."
"You mean the town of Wilcot? It's not much of a city. It's actually a town, about the size of Birksville." I said. Apparently Danny didn't remember much about Birksville and it's neighboring towns. "The town after that is Ackerly, that one is actually bigger, still I wouldn't call it a city. I haven't been there in awhile so, I really don't know if theirs anything to do in Ackerly at night." I said trying to give them a full out map of the towns and what not. "And then there's Liberty Square. That, I would consider a city. I mean, no tremendous buildings or anything. It's not like New York city, but it's as close as we can get to it up here. It's pretty far though." I explained.
"How far?" Danny asked.
"About forty five minutes."
Danny tapped his fingers on the steering wheel. "I got an idea, since this Wilcot or whatever isn't much different then Birksville, we might as well skip it, we'll head straight to Ack-"
"Ackerly" I chimed in.
"Yeah Ackerly, we'll go straight to Ackerly check it out, if there's nothing to do, we'll see how much time we got, and maybe we'll go to Liberty Square or whatever its called. Sound good?"
Mike nodded. "Yup" I said, happily. Neither of them knew how much this night meant to me.
We had been way out of Birksville for awhile. And it was only about a minute after our conversation that we saw the sign for Ackerly. I suppose we passed the sign for Wilcot without even noticing.
Danny found a parking spot in one of the busier streets of Ackerly and all three of us got out of the car and strolled around for a bit. I had completely forgotten what the place even looked like, they had built it up since I had been there last. Although the center of town was still nothing amazing, a few streets one after the other with small shops and restaurants. One movie theater. Mike between me and Danny, we talked a bit, while checking out the place. Danny didn't speak much. He seemed like he knew me and Mike ere meant to hit it off. Finally we decided to go into a café. Then, very spontaneously, Danny said he had to go and he'd be back soon. I would've asked what the problem was but he left before I could even speak. So that left me and Mike alone. Good, but so not good. Now I would be on the spot. One on one, just me and him. I would've preferred a game of basketball with him then a conversation, I was getting fidgety and nervous by the second.
MIKE'S POINT OF VIEW
Danny told me we were picking some girl up, an old friend of his. Honestly when he told me I couldn't have cared less. There were two reasons I was staying in that mini-town in the first place. One, was to study it's history, really, it had a lot of it, that's just my field of business...and Two, to get away from a relationship. See, I had just broken up with my girl friend of two years, over the phone no less, because she was away at the time. I found out she cheated on me, and she found out she didn't care that I was upset, as a matter of fact, she didn't care about me at all. As a result I went a few flings in the summer, hey I'm nineteen right? That's my job. But, I felt so, empty about it. I knew I couldn't get Jenn (that's my ex) back, I didn't think that I even wanted to. So I went with Danny, my friend from Allenville, back "home" with him. I really don't know why he refers to it as home. From what I knew, he had live in Allenville for most his life. Sometimes the guy just didn't make sense.
So he told me about this girl Samantha. And if I wouldn't have known Dan better I would say he liked her himself but, Dan's not like that, he rarely get's emotional with girls. But if he liked her I could understand why. Once we were in the car I could see how intriguingly gorgeous she was. Not the ordinary gorgeous, like a super model, but something was off about her, that made her even prettier. She had this long sleek wavy red-brown hair. I guess chestnut is the word I'm looking for. Chestnut hair, with perfect waves, not too wavy though. And glowing hazel eyes, and creamy skin. She sort of looked like, a princess from back in medieval times. With a grace to match it. But she didn't look fragile, it seemed like if you told her you were going to climb mount Everest she'd join you in a heartbeat... still, no matter how beautiful or intriguing she really was, I knew I didn't want this relationship thing again. Maybe another fling, if time permitted it.
So for some strange reason Danny left us at a small café in the town of... Ack- something or other. Perfect opportunity to get to know this Samantha girl. I don't think Danny realized he was playing matchmaker. But I wasn't about to tell him, maybe then he would stop and honestly, I rather liked the company of Samantha.
She appeared very uncomfortable though, as if I would bite or something. I started up a conversation, eventually we got into the topic of where I'm from and all of that good stuff, how I met Danny and why I'm here. So finally it turned to history. I found this Sam, girl, was actually pretty smart, she knew a good bit of history and geography. She seemed like she knew a lot of things in general, like she just happened to be smart. Finally when Danny returned, (I still don't know where he went for all that time) it was still pretty early, we decided to head to that city Liberty or whatever they call it. Before we left though I said something, that she found amusing I guess, she laughed and she gave me this incredible smile, two things ran through my mind at the moment. Wow, she's amazing and I am so gonna get this girl. I smiled back. She was falling in my arms already.
