*-Some Day In Seran-*

Chapter 2

by: Tormented Soul

Ding…Dong…Ding…Dong…Ding…Dong…

The clock tower at Seran Square rang its doleful chimes at one o' clock on a warm, windy afternoon. The cool breeze blew leaves of different shades from green to yellow to and fro, where on the tall, lush, green grass lay a figure with semi-long, dark brown hair, sleeping in the lazy noon. He wore garments of white, and had a red mark on his forehead. The wind breathed small, yellow blossoms from the swaying Marigold tree, and they floated like ghostly, golden parachutes against the pastel shade of blue that is the sky.

Another hour had past as the tower rang once more. The figure stirred at the loud but distant chimes and slowly blinked his eyes. He placed his palms to the cool, green earth to his side and propped himself up. He sat on the grass, staring into the rippling pond a few feet away from him. The wind grew stronger, blowing against his fair skin and brown locks, yellow petals perching themselves to his hair. He gave a long yawn as he rubbed his sleepy eyes. "Where is Adrian? He should be here by now." Ruffling his hair, he glanced at the distant clock tower which read two o' four in the afternoon.

He stood up and stretched his slender arms above his head and thought aloud, "I wonder where he is right now." His svelte fingers thumbed the buttons of his shirt and began to undress himself. He placed his clothes under the tree where he had slept and slowly submerged into the cool pond. The water's height reached his hips as he wadded to the middle. He started to float on his back as he stared at the blanket of sky adorned with pillows of clouds. The figure's semi-long hair danced in the water as he floated by; his cheeks were tinged of rose due to the frigid temperature; his hazel eyes shone like amber stones against the suns persistent rays of light.

The sun slowly began to descend into hiding behind the mountains. The white-skinned form, dripping from head to toe, emerged from his afternoon swim. He stepped onto the grass-covered ground and sat down, summoning the warm wind of the west. Warm air caressed his porcelain skin and blew through his brown strands of hair. Taking another glance at the faraway clock tower, he picked up his clothes and stepped into his trousers. He slipped on his long, white shirt but left it unbuttoned, revealing his broad chest. Shoving his hands in his pockets, he turned around to leave his secret garden when he suddenly heard a distant voice accompanied by the rustling of leaves in the forest, calling him.

"Hey! Orin! Orin where are you?" the voice called out to him. Just then, an seventeen year-old man, the same age as Orin, with long, flaxen hair tied in a ponytail, and dressed in gray and silver garments similar to Orin's; wearing chrome rimmed glasses, emerged from the green thicket behind him. His blonde hair was disheveled with little twigs and leaves sticking out, and his eyes, as red as the setting sun, revealed a sense of urgency.

"What took you so long, Adrian? I've been waiting for hours! Did you forget that we were supposed to meet here every Saturday during our times off?" Orin asked the blonde in a voice filled with disappointment. "Why'd you make me wait for so long?" Adrian, all the while, was brushing off the debris from his hair and clothing. "I haven't really forgotten our meeting…it just slipped from my mind that's all." He said in a sarcastic sort of way. "Anyway, I came, right? But I also came because of something that concerns you."

Orin stopped buttoning his thigh-length shirt, staring at his best friend. The way Adrian stated that bit of information was not in his usual tone of speaking. This was the first time he saw Adrian look so serious. The sun was slowly beginning to set into hiding, the moon shunning it aside; a chilly breeze gently coaxing the leaves to dance in the darkening sky. "What do you mean 'it's something that concerns me'?" Orin inquired. "What are you talking about?" Adrian nudged his glasses up the bridge of his nose and looked at Orin. "I can't explain everything myself. I can only tell you that the Four Iranite Guardians instructed me to bring you to them."

They stood in front of large, mahogany doors the size of at least three men, where in inscriptions of the olden days were written not only on the doors but on the entire castle itself, adorned with creeping vines. Adrian stepped forward and called out: "Open the doors! We have come to see the Four Iranite Guardians!" The doors opened; a gust of wind and bright light greeted their arrival. Orin looked at Adrian with a face that had worry and unease written all over, but he just nodded to the brunette beside him and proceeded to enter into the blinding radiance. He followed him inside the castle, feeling as if hundreds of ice-winged doves flapped about him in the brilliant, white light.

He opened his eyes and saw a beautiful hall of rose-tinted marble with a glamorous chandelier hanging above his head. So this is how Shinto Castle looks like, Orin thought as he gazed around the elegant room.

"Orin, we must not waste time. We have to get you to the Iranite Guardians' chamber immediately." Adrian exclaimed, ushering Orin towards the stair case. The blonde man walked briskly through the passages and corridors while the latter gaped at the castle's inner beauty, having to jog every now and then to catch up with Adrian. After some time, Adrian finally stopped in front of two crystallized doors, causing Orin to bump into him. "I still don't understand my purpose of being here, Adrian. Why won't you tell me anything?" he said, stepping back a few paces. Putting a hand on his shoulder, Adrian just sighed and said, "Like I said, I can't explain everything myself. I'm not even sure about what's going on. But no matter what it is that concerns you, I'll always be behind you." He said, giving a tap on Orin's shoulder. Together, they pushed the doors open and entered the chamber.

The room was just as breath taking as the main hall, but this time, the marble was tinged with emerald wisps of dark and light. Round, sapphire candles floated to and fro with gentle tongues of fire, forming mystical lights on the walls and ceiling. Long curtains of dark, velvet blue flowed from their brass hangers; down to the cold, marble floor. And there, on the other side of the room; sitting in chairs of gleaming brass, wearing their silk, canary-yellow night garments laced with golden ribbons − the Iranite Guardians of Seran.

"It is good for you to have come, Orin. Thank you Adrian for bringing him here." One of the guardians with short, white-blonde hair as the hair of spring's golden corn said. He beckoned them closer, and the latter timidly walked forward. They stopped a few feet away from the thrones and knelt down on their left knees. Now that I'm here, I guess I can ask now, Orin thought as he raised his head to look at the elite guardians, his brown hair partly covering his hazel eyes. "My Lords, May I please ask why you have summoned me?"

"We have called you because of your and Adrian's expertise." A woman with orange hair as soft as the diminishing rays of sunlight said. "You may rise." Orin and Adrian looked at each other with puzzled looks before the rose up to their feet. "It is natural for the both of you to look so confused." A handsome man with light, gray hair said, propping his chin on the back of his left hand; his left elbow perched on his chair's brass arm, slightly grinning. "I suppose you know of what happened more than fifty decades ago?" Both young men nodded. "Yes. That was the time when all three races, the guardians, humans, and demons lived in harmony." Adrian exclaimed, pushing his glasses up the bridge of his nose. "You're pretty smart for someone so young." The man commented. "At that time, our ancestors have provided for the mortals and demons, and the demons didn't have to lock themselves away from the humans nor us." The handsome man continued. "But then, our ancestors discovered that the Demon Lord, Omaksha, was secretly killing and sometimes even devouring the humans one by one. They found it an obvious threat to the humans, so they killed him." Orin added. "Exactly…but killing Omaksha…was a grave mistake!" Orin's and Adrian's eyes widened with shock at hearing this new piece of information. "You see, before the time of Great Prosperity among guardians, humans, and demons, it was a time of war and suffering. The demons of the past were jealous of the humans for they were taken care of by our ancestors at that time. Demons were cast away from the light of equality among our races…so they killed numerous humans, making us try to take them down by force. They were being led by a dictator, Shuren, one who hated the selfish friendship between us and the mortals. He talked his people into killing those innocent humans. Then one day, our ancestors vanquished him and soon formed a peace treaty among all three races. But unknown to them, as the years moved on, Shuren's spirit wasn't at rest. When his great grandson, Omaksha, took over the throne, he chose him as his host. Unfortunately for Omaksha, our ancestors were so overcome with anger and fear that the past would repeat itself, they weren't able to sense the parasitic spirit within him."

There was a deadly silence in the room now. The candles' light played in the room; Orin and Adrian stood on the spot dumbfounded. "H −How are we connected in all this? Like you said, that was more than fifty decades ago." Orin asked. The Four Iranite Guardians looked at each other before the gray haired man answered. "Omaksha had a son named Levian. He witnessed his father's death. He was an innocent young boy about your age. But sadly, he became vengeful about his father's murder and attempted to kill the Four Iranite Guardians of that time. Assuming that Levian would carry on Omaksha's wrong doings, they sealed the boy in the Book of Demona, a spell book that the demons of the past used during the years of darkness. We have recently felt a strong, evil aura on earth, and it has been revolving around a young lady of sixteen. We think that it's Levian's. Somehow, he was able to get out of the Book of Demona. He may be planning to do something to that poor girl and take on revenge. That is where the two of you come in." Another woman with shoulder-length as black as the raven pointed to them. "Adrian, Orin, though both of you are young, you are considered as few of the most powerful Syndrake Guardians in Seran. Adrian, you are strong in terms of mind, psychic, and telepathic powers, and Orin, you are strong in heart, will, and are one with nature; and both of you are granted with strength. That is why we have chosen you to descend to earth, find Levian, and stop him by any means necessary. That girl's life and others' may be at stake."

"How come I am also involved in this mission? You only instructed me to bring Orin to you." Adrian asked. "Well," the gray haired man said. "We can't Orin can't go alone though he is strong. We only told you that so that you wouldn't get too curious about the matter. Besides, you would've asked too many questions." He said, winking at Adrian. "Humph…" He scoffed, taking it as an insult. Orin, on the other hand, was gazing at the night sky from a nearby window. "How do you suppose Adrian and I would be able to descend to earth without revealing what we really are? It has been centuries since guardians ever set foot on earth. The ways on earth are new and different compared to that of the olden times."

"Well I'm glad that you asked, Orin." The orange haired woman said. "We will turn both of you into humans −"

"What! You can't be serious! Just as Orin had said, the world below has changed! How will we be able to −"

"Please, Adrian, show some respect." The raven haired woman said politely in turn. "Let him be that way, Shira. After all, he is still young." The white-blonde man put in, patting Shira's hand lightly. "We will change you into students, to be exact, and you shall go to the same school as the girl. You will attend the classes she goes to, and you will guard her no matter what. Protect her from any form of danger. We don't know how Levian would get his hands on the girl. The classes should be easy for the both of you. Spend as much time with her as possible. Nowadays, people need money for almost everything, so we will send you some twice a week. And last but not least, you will live as roommates in the same apartment where she lives." The gray haired man named Nero lay back in his chair and eyed the two in front of them. "Any questions before we get both of you ready?" he asked them, smiling. "Uh…yeah…how is it that you know a lot about the human world?" Orin inquired, staring at him in awe. "Well, I've been around the place before I became an Iranite Guardian. If that is all, then it is best that I get you prepared. Don't worry, I'll drop the formalities, so be at ease."

With that, they left the room and headed down the rose-tinged stair case.

"Do you understand how to use money and deal with humans?" Nero asked for the last time that night. He, Orin, and Adrian were standing in Seran Square; the beautiful moon shining above them. The latter nodded, looking at the bundles of green paper in their hands. "Both of you will have to think of temporary last names, just in case." He said. "What are the last names for?" Orin asked in curiosity. "It's for identification. Humans would find it strange if both of you don't have last names. Remember, though both of you will become human, you will still retain your powers in order for you to sense any sign of Levian."

Just then, they heard the rustling of grass from behind them. Turning around, they saw the other three Iranite Guardians. Fei, the white-blonde guardian, Dawn, the woman with long, orange hair and Shira carried lanterns in their hands as well as two bags of clothes. They gave the bags to Adrian and Orin, and set down their lanterns. Adrian opened his bag and saw black trousers, a white long-sleeved shirt, and a dark blue tie. "What are these kinds of clothes?" he asked as he looked at the tie. "That is what you call a uniform, Adrian. You will be wearing that everyday to school. We were able to replicate some for you since we have been observing the males in the girl's school. But of course we will provide you with more of those uniforms. You can't wear the same one all the time. Oh you don't have to wear them now. You will wear them tomorrow on your first day of the mission. I will leave out the details for now, but I will tell you through a mirror in the apartment you will be staying in. The address is in the bags and we will also be able to communicate through mind when you are not in the apartment." Orin took out the piece of paper from his bag which read:

Scarlet Apartment, Corinthian Street

He and Adrian shoved their wallets into their bags, and hung them on their right shoulders. "Please bear in mind that this is no ordinary trip. Levian may be just as powerful as both of you. Many dangers may lie ahead. Be extremely careful." Fei said with a smile, patting their shoulders.

The Four Iranite guardians stepped toward the two young men, formed a circle around them, and clasped their hands together. An ice, blue light shone under their feet within the circle, accompanied by a swirling wind. Orin and Adrian held a tight grip on each other's hand, waiting for what would happen. Nero's voice then shouted to them, "Is there one last question before we change you into humans?" Orin shouted back, "Yes! What is the girl's name?" Then the reply came, "Her name is Fern!"

After those words, Orin's and Adrian's red marks on their foreheads started to fade, as well as the farewells of the Iranite Guardians.

"Good luck to both of you…!"

"Be careful down there…!"

The people and view around them started to swirl around and fade out of sight. It became silent, and just then Orin and Adrian fell unconscious on a smooth, hard surface.

Holy smokes! This took me about a week to finish! . Oh well, at least I finished it right? Please review! I'd like to read your comments. ^-~
