Victoria walked slowly down the street, watching the faces of the other people on the sidewalk as she passed them. Sighing, she turned her face towards the sky, trying to make out shapes in the puffy clouds above her. She vaguely remembered doing that as a kid, looking for sheep or bunnies. That world seemed so far away now.
Why did I tell them?,' she wondered to herself. Why didn't I just keep it to myself, play pretend? I used to be so good at it, so what's changed?'
You can't hide how much you love her,' the little voice in her head told her. Alexandra means so much to you, and you can't ignore it anymore.'
She knew the little voice was right, but still she couldn't understand how love could make her so foolish. I knew my parents would disown me if I told them, and yet I did it anyway. Alex must be more important to me than I thought...'
It was then that she realized she was standing in front of Alex's house. Might as well see if she's home,' she thought to herself. She should know what's happened.' Victoria climbed the steps & rang the bell. When Alex answered, she smiled.
I'm crazy for you, you know that?
Alex smiled back. Why, Vic? What did you do this time?
Told my parents the truth.
Alex's eyes grew big, and she pulled Victoria inside the house. Good grief, you must be kidding! Please tell me you didn't. What happened? What did they do? Did they throw you out? Are they disowning you? Writing you out of their will?, Alex rambled.
Slow down! Its ok. Whatever they do, I can live with it. As long as I have you.
Alex's expression softened from a look of pure terror to one of undying affection. Of course you'll always have me. She reached out and hugged Victoria. I'd be stupid to let you slip away.
Yeah, my thoughts exactly. So you see why I had to tell them.
Alex grinned. Yeah, I get it. God help you, though.
He always has before.
Alex laughed, and Victoria just smiled softly. I'm so lucky,' she thought to herself, to have a beautiful woman like this in my life. What would I do without her...'
The End (?)
