If I looked down from up here,
Beaming down from the atmosphere,
Who is standing there, could it be?
A face staring there so visibly.
If the Earth had a face like you,
Its eyes would be smiling and blue,
Those eyes would never cry a tear,
And would never cringe in fear,
Like sunrises on a dark, cold day,
Gleaming in its own sweet way,
Letting me know that I'm not alone,
Even though I have no home.
If the Earth had a face that cried,
Then the oceans would flood all night,
The wind would never cease to blow,
Sweeping away the stars that glow,
Thunder and lightning in the sky,
Crashing and striking the clouds so high,
Making it cold, and colder still,
Making it dark, as darkness will.
If the Earth could be the one to sing,
And make me proud of everything,
Then it would be clearer than any light,
Shining the way like a star so bright,
Smiling at you like the sun itself,
When life shows nothing else
But tears and sad love songs,
Then it will sing to right all wrongs.
If the Earth had a face that would smile,
Everything would be worth my while,
Whispering words into my head,
Telling me to step ahead,
Making all shattered things again whole,
Telling them what was never told,
And deep inside my very heart,
I know that you'll always be a part,
Of me.
