Hay ya folks. I'm just posting this descriptive essay to see what you think of it. It's for school so its nothing special. All criticism is welcome.
Note: this is purely descriptive so don't criticise me about the lack of action
Descriptive Essay – CavesMoonlight from outside the cave makes the alls glisten and ooze as if I stand inside a huge mouth. Sharp rocks around the entrance are covered in dried seaweed and trapped behind the teeth like rocks are thousands o seashells, littered on the ground, like tiny bones. Clouds drift across the moon, heavy with rain, and I am plunged into the hungry darkness.
It is as my eyes fail to work, that my nose and ears take over. The night air smells close with rotting seaweed, too long out of water but not long enough in the sun to dry out. Tiny shells crunch under my feet as waves pound against the beach. My breathing is amplified and harsh to my ears as the salty smell of the sea fills my nose.
I switch on my torch and am near blinded by its powerful beam of cheerful light. I turn and creep further into the cave. Under my feet the shells give way to soft white sand and the walls are like rainbows, as the torchlight bounces off them. Towards the back of the cave a narrow passage leads off into the darkness. I enter it, making myself as small as possible, so as to avoid contact with the walls. My shoulder brushes something unseen in the dark. I swing my torch around to find . . . . . . nothing. I drop it and the light goes out as it rolls out of the passage.
Darkness presses in on me until I begin to wonder if I only dreamed of light. I steal myself and reach out with my fingertips to where the walls should be. My digits touch something smooth and slightly damp. I run them across it to find that it is the wall. I follow its curve to feel cool air on my face, meaning I have found a cavern.
My foot strikes something hard and I bend over and retrieve my torch. As I switch it on I notice a noise, a great thundering that I feel in my bones, round a corner. I follow it to its source … a wonderful, cascading waterfall. It is a fall of diamonds and rainbows, tumbling from a gash in the wall, plunging into a river to race into an opening in the opposite wall, disappearing into darkness. I laugh at the sheer joy of being witness to this marvel of nature, amazed as to how such beauty could exist in such a dark place. It seems to chime and tinkle, as well as pound and thunder, in my ears while flash and wink in my eyes. Spay falls across my face and I smell coldness.
After one more awed look, I turn away to walk back into the darkness.
Well, tell me what you think of it
