I looked back at my companion and put my hands on my hips. He was taking his tenth break of the hour and was doing nothing more than slowing us down.
"Hurry it up, will you Armis!" I snapped as he put his hands on his knees. "We have to get back to the camp before nightfall."
"I know. I'm hurrying, Nexus," He said, inhaling deeply. "Let's go then."
He walked past me, the torch's purple flame lighting the path through the crypt. I scowled as he purposely sped up, trying to annoy me. His long black hair flowed behind him as he jogged in front of me.
In spite of myself I stopped for a moment. I stretched and let my back crack. I heard a sharp cry and I let my hands fall at my sword before I heard,
"I've found it! Nexus, it's here!"
I sprinted to the place where his voice was sounding. I stopped as I saw the necklace. It was beautiful, the legendary necklace of Odaba the Chaiste. I didn't even know the names of most of the jewels on the felt rope. I only knew the black as jaki and the three blues as lahid.
"Do you know what this means?" Armis asked me. "Do you know what this is?"
"Yes. The necklace of Odaba...What is it worth Armis?"
"Millions of kela..." He said smiling. "And it will be all mine."
"Armis!" I snapped. "We had a deal!"
"No deal...If you're dead."
"You-you bast-"
Pain shot through me as my own sword dove through my ribs. I screamed as it emerged through my back. I fell as he walked away, the necklace in his hands. Too bad for him...He didn't know the way out.
