A sideways glance begins it all
A war with your spirit
Never feel the sun dance upon your cheeks
For you won't let the sun come in
You keep your shades down
And sit in the dark corner
Shadows cascading down the walls consume you
They will eat you alive and spit out your bones
Fall towards the darkness and land in a pool of blood
The thought of it all ending lingers in your thoughts
Self-image is shattered with a fist of resentment
Words sputtered from others are twisted in your mind
Get lost in your web of torment
Icy tears crystallize your heart, you're out of reach
Becoming aloof as the hazy air thickens and chokes you
But find shelter in a friend and don't let go
Their kindness and warmth will shatter those chilling tears
Compassionate words and tender embraces can save you
Bitter thoughts and inner hatred are washed away
Drowned by tears of joy from finding your inner beauty
Latent was it until a friend came along
Showed you the beauty of yourself and the world around you
Hold on to the sunlight, hold on to that sincere face
Bound together are we with vines of sympathy
May they grow and flourish with empathy
Don't let go, hold on to me
