The Beach at Night

By Estel Elendil

Rising and returning

The waves slowly reach the shores

And are greeted by the calling of the gulls

Calling, calling again

Come home

The sand slips slowly through my fingers

As I lie on the on the smooth shores

Each time welcoming the waves back in

In the distant cities

There is only the muted murmur of the late night

And here by the shore, the sounds of the waves

The soft sounds of waves and gulls

Are the only nightly noises to be noticed

Once the world has gone to sleep

But I still lie on the beach

As the waves slowly reach the shores

Rising and returning.
