My Friend, My Uncle
I remember the day before the funeral
You held back the tears
You were so strong
Your father had died and you were in grief
You told us the story of your worst moment
We all sat in the new room listening
It was before I was born
Right?
Well, you were so depressed
I can't picture you depressed
You were always so happy
You wanted to take your life
The gun lay before you
Years before then though,
Someone significant
Read you a small piece
It was from the Bible
But that was years before
You couldn't remember the piece
That one special sentence
You brought out your Bible
You opened it to a random page
There was that piece
On that random page
How ironic, you thought
I don't believe it was ironic
I believe that God didn't think it was your time
But you put away your gun
You prayed
But right now,
You aren't here
God didn't want you in Heaven
Those many years ago
But He took you from us
I will always remember
That story of yours
Remember me
While in Heaven
Tell Paw-paw it's just
Not the same
Now,
With both of you gone,
I will forever be empty
I will never be the same
