Empty Footsteps/A Hollow Floor
A Poem
by
Gutter Rat
Today
I discovered something interesting
About my closet
It can hold three dead bodies
If two are piled
One
On
Top
Of
The
Other
And the last hangs
From the clothes hook
On the back of the door
My landlord has complained
About the smell
And the other tenants
Want me to move away
I don't see what all the fuss is about
I have better than four dozen
Air fresheners hanging
About the apartment
And I spray an aerosol flower scent
Several times a day
From a pink can
My typewriter sits in a corner
Unused
Collecting dust
My shower drain is clotted
With blood
I don't think it's mine
I can feel my head splitting
Apart
Piece by piece
I laugh in an empty room
Knock-knock
Who's there?
Nothing
Just a shadow
I hear a click-clack
In the hall
A tip-tap
On the window
Yin-yang
What's that thang?
Fiddle faddle
What's the maddle?
I killed a small dog today
It belonged to the old lady
Down the hall
It's been sniffing
Round my door lately
I strangled it
And tried to dispose of it
But the toilet flooded
I have to get out of here
I need to breathe
There's nothing under my bed
And that's what worries me
