Trapped

by Lalita

Trapped under a blanket with squares of blue

Contrasting with my hair's auburn hue

I try to move past the realm of my dreams

Willing myself to wake with the sound of a scream

I see mother's face, I see father's fists

I feel my old boyfriend's smothering kiss

A hand from the ground with wrinkly flesh

A race so intense; I try to be best

The senses of fear, of doom and despair

The faces of liars, saying they care

Corpses of friends, of family long lost

Fog all around, like choking exhaust

A heartbeat that feeds my gushing veins

Red marks on an arm, like a striped candy cane

Someone crying, a plea meant for me

I try to find him, but there's nothing to see

A laugh filled with evil, a laugh filled with sin

My laugh, so alike, is building within

And throughout my dreams, there's crimson and red

A picture of me, so cold and so dead

Trapped under a blanket with squares of blue

Contrasting with my hair's auburn hue

I try to move past the realm of my dreams

Willing myself to wake with the sound of a scream
