As the sun broke over the hill.
For the day was finally beginning,
After the night that bade us ill.
But even though most creatures brightly
Welcomed the commencement of the day
Some living breathing organisms,
Still in darkness heavy lay.
For these unfortunate souls sleeping
As yet unwoken by the light
In the darkness unpenatrable
Their eyes have never experienced sight.
So glad am I that I am not
One of these sad, unhappy things
Who live in perpetual night unbreaking
While all the world around them sings.
