Snowy Day

softly drifting
to the ground
like
silent
white
ballerinas.
they float
down,
plows push through,
shoving the
powder to the
side of the street.
piles stack up,
nearly
three feet high
in some places.
young ones
rush outside
to build
wondrous
snowmen,
while the rest
of the city
stays inside with
steaming cups
of hot chocolate.
they curl up
under the blankets
reading a favorite
book
while the soft
snow
still falls,
covering the
ground
in a
thick
white
blanket.
