Humans cover the Earth
As a plague to the land.
Every animal runs from the highway.
Mankind included.
We pollute our own waters,
Killing human children
Not just the next generation
Of water fowl and fruit bats.
I can't help but think it pathetic.
When I hear "Twin Towers"
I think J.R.R. Tolkien
Never "nine-eleven,"
Never "World Trade Centers,"
Never "terrorist attack."
I think of Peter Jackson.
I can't help but think it pathetic.
If anyone ever tells you
Of Washington, D.C.
Don't listen to their lies.
Hollywood is the capital
Of the US of A.
I can't help but think it pathetic.
The World Trade Center?
They would have accomplished more
If they had flown a plane
Into the middle of the
Academy Awards.
I can't help but think it pathetic.
To see a crippled, bored America,
Our collective mind in withdrawal,
Recoiling in shock at the
Decimation of American culture.
But then, they watch our movies too, right?
It'd be an entertainment suicide,
The work of a nation of masochists.
I can't help but think it pathetic.
Then there are kids.
America trains its youth
To be exactly like their elders
The same materialistic ideals
The same lack of morality, values
The same disregard for authority.
But hey, it's fun, isn't it?
I can't help but think it pathetic.
You try to say that the youth is corrupted
"In the old days," my foot
It's exactly the same
New slang, perhaps
New games, new tricks
But in the end it's the same.
I can't help but think it pathetic.
My generation of teenagers:
Girls obsess over guys
Wear pink, bat their eyelashes,
Shop continually, toy with their cell phones.
Guys play football, sag their pants
Wear Christmas boxers in May
Treat girls like possessions
Pretend they can rap.
The epitome of high school preps.
Don't even tell me
That we're supposed to look up to them.
I can't help but think it pathetic.
On the other side of the line
Stands an army of punks, goths, and rebels.
They try to look different.
They wear black clothes, metal spikes,
Dye their hair and duct tape their shoes.
Don't they realize what happens?
They end up exactly the same
As the "revolutionary" next to them in line.
I can't help but think it pathetic.
But when I stop and look
I realize something too.
I'm just another Democrat
Speaking out against the Bush administration.
I'm just another teenaged "poet"
Complaining about the world.
I'm just another kid
With an idea of how to run things right.
I'm just another human
Thinking my beliefs will triumph
But I'm just another inhabitant
Of the third rock from the sun.
Self-centered to the core,
I listen to no one.
I can't help but know it's pathetic.
A/N: I was in a sarcastic mood, as ever. Bitter, of course, and you can
tell toward the end. It's not much in the way of poetry, but it expresses
my thoughts, and that's what I need it for. I hope someone got some
enjoyment from it, or if not, I at least hope it sparked some thought.
