Neglected Hope

A ray of hope shines through the darkness

A ray of sunlight could not pass there

Through the cell of secluded loneliness

Only despair could ever reign here

Within the depths of this lonely cell

I reside; I rest and dwell

Through this mist none could pierce

But one ray of light, fast and fierce

It called to me through the gathering gloom

It called to me to save myself from doom

Its call was like a flutter of wings

Quick and light as an angel sings

But I did not answer; I did not reply

To this ethereal call I could not comply

The darkness that blinded me I'd grown to love

No fairy could save me, no call from above

I could not accept that golden call of salvation

That shining, silver light, that lovely invitation

To that beautiful place without pain or fear

All I knew was that I wanted to remain here

Here in the darkness, here in this sorrow

Here in this cell always waiting for tomorrow

I shall remain, desolate and alone

Away from where sunlight once had shone
