What a great day this has been. Staring at the back of his head, willing him to turn around and talk to me, to just say a few words. Even to acknowledge my presence. Simple wishes really, its not like I want him to whisk me off of my feet and carry me away to his castle, although that would be nice. Of course that is not and will never be the reality. I wish that my fantasy were reality, if it was, then I'd be happy. I'd actually be able to pay attention because I wouldn't have to think about him all of the time, I would have him all to myself in a castle far away from here. OK, focus, I've been off in space all day. But the back of his head is just so gorgeous. The way the muscles in his slender neck tighten when he tries to understand something, his dark, disheveled hair just brushing the top of his collar. Watching his muscular arm holding up his slumping head waiting for the blessed bell to signal the end of the day.
BBBBRRRRIIIIIIIIINNNGGGGG
The harsh, loud bell interrupted my wonderful distraction. At least that's the end of the day. I slowly packed my bag as the object of my obsession got up and turned around. I pretended not to notice. It's so hard not to keep staring at him forever. I could get lost in his eyes all day and never be bored. I grabbed the rest of my stuff and left the classroom in a hurry. I rushed over to my locker to put everything away and slammed it shut; I have to get out of here. My mind is swimming with thoughts of Jake. I've been focusing on him all day. Too bad I missed everything else that went on. Why does school have to be this hard anyways? The government is out to get us, that has to be it.
"Hey…" and yet again my thoughts were interrupted.
"Huh…oh…hey." I said, greeting my closest friend.
"What's the matter with you?" His familiar voice asked sounding genuinely concerned.
"What? Nothing…well stress, and lack of concentration." I replied, snapping back into reality from that blissful state where nothing is real or complex.
"You really should sit on the other side of the room you know." He said with a knowing smirk plastered on his face.
I smacked him, angered mostly at the truth in his precise statement, "Shut up!" I said, "He has nothing to do with it." An obvious lie, I know it and he knows it, but I'm ashamed of the way that I'm acting.
"Bull," Luke said, rubbing the spot on the back of his head where I had hit him, "It has everything to do with him." I looked away, ashamed. Luke and I have been close for years but I still don't want him to see me like this. I'm a mess, all over a stupid guy. Luke has always been there for me and I really can't believe I'm acting this way, especially to him.
"I'm sorry," I said quickly, "I have to go." And then rushed away before he could say anything back to me. I walked hurriedly through the halls. Rushing to get home, to get away from here. I wasn't watching where I was going and before I knew it I tripped over a bag that was lying in the middle of nowhere in the stupid, narrow hallway and quickly met the hard, cool ground. Damn. I grabbed my bag and stood up, only to find myself face to face with Jake. (Yes, the "distraction") I tried to restrain my jaw as I felt it dropping.
"Sorry," I stammered, "Excuse me," and I tried to walk past him before I embarrassed myself but he stepped directly in my way.
"Hey, you're in my history class, right?" he said with a sparkle in his deep beautiful eyes.
"Yeah." I replied stupidly looking up into his emerald green eyes, his gorgeous green eyes. I noticed that they had tiny flecks of blue in them. He's so handsome, I want him to sweep me up into his arms and take me away forever.
"Cool, I guess I'll see you around then." I nodded slowly, embarrassed at the thoughts that just fleetingly went through my mind and began to turn away and start walking, I was sure that my face had turned every shade of red by now.
"Wait," he called after me, "what's your name?" he then caught up to me and looked right into my eyes, completely surprising me.
"Chloe." I replied, my heart pounding in my chest, I can't believe he's still talking to me. Why am I just standing here like an idiot? I've wanted to talk to him forever.
"That's a nice name," he said obviously trying to be polite. "I'm Jake," after I made no movement to reply he waved, "I guess I'll see you later." He said, annunciating every word perfectly, his smooth, supple lips forming the words that I had been dreaming about all day.
"Uh-huh." I said inanely, still stunned by the unexpected conversation that had just taken place. Then he flashed his perfect teeth and walked past me. Well, that's great, I told myself, I managed to squeeze about seven monosyllabic words into that lovely conversation. I shook my head at my foolishness and walked out of hideous green metal doors of the school. I saw Luke standing by my small, red car. Oh damn, I forgot, I'm driving him home. He snickered at me as I approached. All I could do was roll my eyes at him. He knew I forgot. Maybe I just shouldn't let him in, just drive away without him. Or not, I acted really irrationally before; I'm starting to think that my mind is regressing to back when I was five.
"You're right," I said deciding against just driving away without saying anything, "it has everything to do with him."
"I know," Luke smirked, as usual, "I'm always right."
A/N- I've been working on this story for a while now and I have a pretty good idea of where the plot is going to go. Please review; I want to know what everyone thinks so that I can improve my writing. I hope it's not too cliché, but I think that will all change later.
