Why I Didn't Sign
or
A Kindly Deviant

Last week I met the devil
Sunday noon no less,
For when could have been better than
When religious take their rest.

We sat down in style
To a feast of baked goodies,
He finished off a platter
Without so much as a by-your-leave.
He then proceeded to tell me
A little more butter would have been better.
I scrawled down his directions,
For once someone truthful about my food!

I cordially invited him
To stroll about the yard.
We visited the grave
Of a dog I once did love.
'His name?' he asked
I told him, all news is good news.
'Oh! A fine fellow was he' he said.

'I met him once in spring'.
Delighted at the way in which
My dear mutt was no-longer living
We rested our legs a while
On the swing, there in the garden.
I reminisced of good times, good food,
And he about wise death.
Learning much we retired inside
After a while of such.

In there I offered him the chance
To read my writing- 'fair',
He proclaimed
After many a merry laugh.
The yaoi, he did much treasure,
So much, I told him- 'here, take my URL
And read it much more there!'
The devil cackled with triumph,
His slashy quota filled.

We again resumed our prior seats,
About the kitchen bench.
The devil whipped out a contract,
'Say' said he 'you please me very much
Join us in hell now, it's comfortable
And there is much there that you love'.

The paper before me,
The black quill in my hand.
I hauled away my blinding guilt
And thus began to write.
I wrote and writ, and crossed and dotted every single 'i'.

'Are you finished?' kind Lucifer said,
I nodded my reply
He snatched that contract up and
Read it all before I could bat an eye.
'Oh dear' he said 'Oh my' he cried
For want of a better censor.

I let him out the door that night
Consoling 'Don't worry, I'll come later'.
He stormed away and was swallowed up
By his inky portal
With barely time to wave goodbye
And call 'I'll miss you mortal'.
I missed him too, deeply I did
But I stayed all the same
Though he was nice, and it had seemed right
I wasn't finished here yet.
To taint your souls with love for what you hate
Has been my job.
I'm not quite done, though on my way
So rejoice and all be gay!
