And I didn't even notice as I slipped into a seemingly alternate reality,
a world that seemed lifetimes away, though it was only miles.

People hardly noticed the chaotic calm they were enveloped in,
the air of freedom and independence that resided on every street
and Golden Gate Park. The endless noise was music to previously deafened
ears.

It was there that I learned of choice.

One could walk on a street wearing whatever he chose and be accepted.
Separate yet united, it was an almost unrecognizable community of
the formerly misunderstood, the independent and adventurous, or perhaps
just
those who wanted to be free.

And I will sit by the lake with the wind in my hair,
rediscovering smiling, and temporarily living in
the place where magic can trick you into thinking it exists.
