The rest of the weekend Sam lazily sat around the house talking to her new group of friends online. Sandra kept talking about her friend Nicole, and how she just knew that Sam would hit it off with her great when she met her at school on Monday. Apparently Nicole had missed her first week of school due to a family vacation. Nicole's parents were really rich and refused to give up their preplanned trip to the Bahamas for Nicole's first week of school. How were they to know the schoolboard was starting school earlier that year? Sam just kinda thought that was wierd.
Though Sam was thoroughly enjoying her fat-cat weekend, Monday eventually rolled around. Sam thought she must dress to impress the highly thought of Nicole. She wore her baby blue American Eagle minidress with baby blue sketchers and tied her hair into a high ponytail. She wore her make-up light, just to make her complexion look perfect. She decided this would pass as her mother called her to breakfast.
As Sam walked over to the lunchroom to meet her friends, she began to notice the butterflies in her stomach. Why was she getting to nervous over meeting this girl? Maybe because she was held in such high opinion by the girl she thought of as her best friend. If Nicole didn't like her, would everyone else stop liking her too? She was rich, right? Maybe she pulled the strings.
"Sam! Oh you're so cute today", Sandra ran at her and gave her a hug. Sam looked over her shoulder to see Rob sitting at the closest table with a girl who had long brown hair and gorgeous green eyes. "Nicole", cried Sandra as she spun Sam around like a gold necklace on QVC, "This is Sam, the girl I was telling you about on the phone."
"Hey", Nicole smiled with perfect teeth. "You're adorable!" Sam felt the butterflies melt away. "Come here, what classes do you have?"
"Well, I have Earth Science first off-"
"Me too, what room?" Nicole's brown hair spilled over her shoulder as she sneaked her head around to look at the schedule sticking out of Sam's bag. "Ooh, same one as mine. Oh, but that's the only class we do have together." Nicole's face showed dismay and Sam decided she looked a lot better when she was smiling. Maybe everyone looked better when they were smiling. Sam decided she would smile a lot more.
The bell rang and Nicole grabbed Sam up from the table as she hugged everyone else goodbye. Sam barely had time to give Rob a hug before being dragged off towards the science hallway by the brunette.
"Nicole Aster?"
The brown-haired girl bounced to the desk of Ms. Elise as she was called, holding out her schedule in front of her. "Yes?"
"What are you doing sitting next to Samantha. As I recall, her last name starts with a 'T' while Aster certainly does not." The woman glanced down at the student from behind her glasses. Techers always had a way of doing that to make you feel like you commited a crime.
"Well, I know, but since I got here late and everyone has allready taken seats, don't you think it would be allright if I just took the empty one next to Sam? I wouldn't want to disrupt the class by making anyone move." Nicole's voice sounded so sincere but you knew her lips were really saying 'I have a lot of money, Ms. Elise. Isn't that something?'
The teacher sat back and sighed. "I suppose it will be fine for now. But if I catch you girls talking in the middle of a lesson, you will have no second chances. Understood Ms. Aster?"
"Of course", Nicole gasped. "Thanks again!" She turned around and hopped back into her seat next to Sam.
"Wow, good job!" Sam was impressed. She could never weasel her way out of anything, except maybe having no identity.
"Yeah well, when you stand to inherit crazy cash, you get away with some stuff", Nicole said smoothly. The girls both giggled.
"So, if you have so much money", Sam started.
"Why do I go to this school?"
"Yeah", Sam looked around. "Just wondering..."
"Well, I just told my parents straight up that I was not going to wear any tacky uniforms." the girls laughed again but stopped when Ms. Elise looked in their direction. "Actually", Nicole whispered, "I went to a private elementary school, but I begged them to let me go to a public middle school, and they gave in because I'm an only child and they love me."
"I'm an only child, too", Sam said. "But, I don't think I'd get that kind of treatment."
"How do you know", Nicole asked. "Have you ever tried?"
"No...I guess I've never had to." The Sam thought about how her parents put up no fuss when she asked for all the new clothes and CDs and make-up. "Actually, when I think about it, being an only child is kinda cool."
"Ehem?" The girls looked up to see Ms. Elise had paused again. They stopped talking so much after that.
"So, what did you think of Nicole?"
Sam looked over at Sandra as she started doing half-assed push ups with the rest of the class. "Oh my god, she is so sweet!" She was taken abback by how her voice. It was almost as cheeky as Jessica's.
"Oh I know", replied Sandra in the same kind of tone. "I'm so glad you guys hit it off. I knew you would!" They stopped pretending to push themselves from the ground and started stretching their arms. "Oh god, can you believe he wants us to play basketball today", Sandra said sneering over at the P.E. teacher. "And I just got my nails done with my mom Sunday."
"Oh my God, I know!" Sam started to inspect her nails without trying to be obvious. She should try to do something with them...
"Well, maybe we can just get away with pretending to play and really just check out the cute guys." She smirked in Sam's direction, but Sam met her with one of her own.
"You can't check anyone out hun! You have Rob, remember?"
"Oh shut-up", Sandra blushed. "He isn't my boyfriend, I just have a crush on him. Oh, I shouldn't have told you, only Nicole knows. Don't tell him anything!"
"I won't", Sam said. "But what I don't understand is why you don't just tell him. You guys would be so cute together. And, I think he likes you, too." She nudged her friend as they stood to walk to the courts with the class.
"Really", Sandra blushed all over again. "No, there's no way he'd like me back." She looked down at the ground with her hands to her face, smiling.
"Why not", sam asked. "You're so pretty and you're real sweet. I think he'd be crazy not to."
"Oh my god Sam, you're so sweet." She hugged her friend. "You know what, I might just talk to him then. Now let's go look at the cute guys for you."
"Okay, too bad there aren't many." The two girls laughed to themselves as they walked on.
'Sweetgrl056: O my god, I did it Sam. I asked Rob out.'
'I_Luv_Me3: No way, wat did he say?'
'Sweetgrl056: He said he really lykd me + we shud go out 2 the movies this weekend'
'Sweetgrl056: ALONE!11!'
'I_Luv_Me3: Yay! Way 2 go so happy ;-) '
'I_Luv_Me3: Did U tell Jess yet?'
'Sweetgrl056: No, I told Nicole but I gtg call him. C U! '
'I_Luv_Me3: Luv ya grl, go U Night!'
'I_Luv_Me3: O my god, Jessica

'BubbleQueen: Ok, C U l8r hun'
Sam ate her dinner slowly, not because it wasn't good, but because she kept day dreaming about one day having a boyfriend. Jessica and Sandra were so lucky. How could Nicole not have a boyfriend. She didn't know. Maybe they could look together. She would ask her tomorrow in class. She'd make herself remember.
