A/N: Yes, I know it's been forever and a day since I've updated. I wasn't quite sure if I wanted to continue with this one but I'll try. I felt the need to be creative so I pulled it out again. Sorry this chapter is so short. ~Lyra

"It's just that no legitimate med student would be wandering around the streets at night looking for patients if they were rich, right?" He answered for her.

"Yeah, something like that. Sorry." She winced as he probed the wound with a cotton swab.

"Well, I'm not rich. My parents cut me off when I decided not to follow their dream and become a vet."

"But it's still in the medical field."

"Wrong species, they claimed. This may sting." He poured some clear liquid from a bottle over her cut. It dripped down onto his coat.

"You're getting your coat wet." Gwendolyn shifted over, trying to redirect the drops to the pavement.

"Doesn't matter, it's warm out. Lucky for you, no stitches required." He pulled some gauze from the bag to wrap around her leg.

"Thank you for doing this. I know I was kind of mean at first but I'm glad you persisted. Really."

"Just doing my job." He placed a large piece of cotton over the cut then wrapped the gauze around her leg tightly. "If I'm cutting of circulation, just let me know. It should be tight but not that tight." Even through the latex gloves, she could feel his warm hands as he guided the gauze around her thigh.

"No, it's fine." He finished wrapping her leg and sat back on his heels.

"Now, let's discuss your payment plan."

"I'm sorry?" Gwendolyn said in disbelief.

"I'm only kidding. I just like seeing people's expressions when I try out that line."

"Ha ha, very funny."

"I had to try. You should be all set, though. Just change the dressing twice a day to keep it fresh and clean." He started to pack up his bag of supplies. Gwendolyn slowly raised herself to her feet and gingerly placed weight on her injured limb. "Do you want some pain killers? I can't offer you any water though." He shook a bottle of pills.

"One would be nice, I don't need water." She accepted a pill from him and swallowed it.

"That's a nice trick. Sure you won't choke later?"

"No, I'm fine."

"I can offer you some coffee, if you'd like. I know a little place not too far away." He shyly suggested.

"Thanks, but no thanks. I've already imposed too much on your hospitality."

"You're no imposition at all. It was my pleasure to be of such assistance to you in your time of need. Please, let me buy you some coffee."

Gwendolyn thought for a moment. She really should go looking for Thuy, he would be starting to get worried soon. But, she could really use something to eat as she hadn't eaten since this morning. Her stomach growled, much in favor of the latter.

"I suppose I can get some coffee, but only for a little while."

"Great, let me just close up my office and we'll be on our way."
