"I can't believe this!"
Sora muttered angrily under her breath, as she tentatively walked on the moss-covered ground.
"Well maybe you shouldn't have worn high heels today!"
Melanie replied, who stood in front of the first girl, sarcastically imitating her posh ness.
"I can't help it if I have to be beautiful."
Sora came back, with a snotty remorse, and flipping back her shiny long blonde hair.
"You wear them everyday!"
Melanie yelled angrily, losing her temper at her sister's snotty attitude.
"Just SHUT UP you two!"
The two girls turned around, from their positions of killing themselves, to see Rick, who was leading the small group of mismatched people. Sora is a little spoiled princess, who thinks beauty is everything. Melanie is Sora's twin sister who is exactly the opposite of her sister. She loves magic and has contained a certain childlike innocence, where as Sora just loves to flirt with the boys. Rick is the loner. He hates to be around people, for the reason he thought he was abandoned when he was a child. Now, he lives alone after the orphanage. Melanie just tries to ignore him. Sora tries to flirt as usual, because he's cute.
As the group made their way through the thick fog of the dense rainforest, Sora tried to keep as close as possible to Rick's side.
"Rick, sweetie, don't you want to go someplace more, private?"
The dark brown haired boy just stayed silent, giving her a quick glare of ice blue eyes into her starry hazel eyes, only to receive a dreamy sigh.
Melanie watched the two from a ways behind them; her eyes were a little puffy and red from stinging tears. 'Why is it every time that I like someone; Sora has to butt in. Oh, did I say I liked Rick?! No, no, NO! I refuse to believe it!' Still in her own little world Melanie's footing slipped off the thick branch she was sitting on, making her fall to the moist forest bottom with a loud thud. However, she could have sworn she also heard a soft crack in her leg. The sudden pain as she tried to move her injury, only brought more tears to her green eyes.
Upon hearing the soft cries the other two kids turned and hurried over to the source of the shouts of the fallen girl.
"What happened?" Rick asked exasperated.
"I-I f-fell." Melanie whimpered innocently; blushing a little, totally embarrassed.
"I knew something like this would happen: you keep climbing those trees in our backyard. You never even thought about the consequences!" Sora shouted angrily, but then smirked towards Rick. Her sister's outburst only brought more tears to Melanie's eyes.
"Come on, Rick. I'm sure someone will find her eventually."
Sora turned her back, and continued their current route, but stopped when she heard Rick mutter forcefully.
"Sora, we were kidnapped and are missing. No one knows we're here. Also, she is your own sister, your flesh and blood. Can you really just leave her here?
Then, kneeling down, he reached into his bag and pulled out a roll of white sticky gauze, and began to wrap Melanie's knee, which was already red and swollen. Rick suspected it was broken, and suggested that she shouldn't even try walking. Carefully, Rick picked her, with some ignored protest from Sora, and continued their path. He knew full well the camp north of them was where they were headed before they were kidnapped. Melanie felt so comfortable in Rick's strong grasp, eventually, out of exhaustion, she fell asleep against his strong chest. Noticing this, Rick cheeks turned a slight tinge of pink.
After walking a couple of hours, they came to a clearing, and hearing a sudden noise, looked up to see a patrol helicopter fly overhead. Sora, being the only one free, waved her bracelet covered arms and screeched for the 'copter to land. It did. The pilot saw the kids, and recognized them from the missing poster. However, his smile saddened.
"I'm sorry but I only have room for one. Two of you will have to wait."
Rick was about to step forward with a sleeping Melanie, but stopped abruptly when Sora jumped into the only seat.
"Please, get me out of this hell hole, Now!" she demanded.
Rick growled but turned quickly to the pilot, "I'll stay with this girl." The pilot nodded and took off with Sora relaxing.
Rick turned around and laid Melanie down leaning against the base of a tree and sat beside her, putting his arm around her shoulders, keeping her warm. 'Am I falling in love?' he screamed in his head, but it softened quickly when he saw the petite girl cuddle into his chest. He leaned down and kissed her forehead. He pulled her into his lap, protectively, and promising nothing would ever happen to her again. He now had a reason to live, for love.
