Chapter 15: Upgrade level! Rune gaurdian! Go Go Go!

"Where the hell are the Hsing and Kazuo!"

Hotaru turned to Sakura.

"Well you seemed worried."

Sakura frowned.

"Well, didn't you hear about the curse of the school."

"WHAT!" exclaimed Haru.

"Seniors said that they could hear howling last year at this school."

"Uh..."

"I hope they don't find what's out there."

Hotaru sighed.

"Don't worry, They probably just went for a walk."

Hsing sighed.

"You didn't have to kill them all."

THEY THREATENED US! JUSTICE WAS DONE!

"Yea, I know but still. It was a bit harsh."

The wolf said nothing.

"Kazuo, you need to learn how to control it."

Hsing sighed.

"How long have you been here?"

SINCE LAST YEAR. WHY?

"Just curious."

Sakura looked at the full moon.

"You know what?"

"What." Hotaru replied.

"Remember how we met Kazuo?"

"Yeah."

"Now that you think about it. We don't know much about him."

"Yeah. You're right."

"Hmm…I wonder where he came from."

I WAS SENT TO THE SCHOOL ONE YEAR EARLIER BECAUSE MY PARENTS THOUGHT IT WOULD HELP THE CURSE.

"Really now. You just had to not take your weapons in the night of the full moon."

YEA? THAT'S WHAT THEY DID AND NOW THEY'RE DEA—

The wolf stopped talking. It halted and looked at a piece of paper caught in the branches of the tall tree. Hsing looked at it.

"We attack Sakura Otohome and bring her back to the master." Hsing read.

THIS IS WHY I ALWAYS CARRY A WEAPON, the wolf growled.

Hsing nodded understandingly.

"What do we do?"

NOTHING, the wolf growled again, SAKURA WILL SUMMON.

"You sure it's right to depend on Sakura like that?"

YES.

"Last time she could only summon Anubis"

I KNOW.

"You still trust her?"

YES.

Sakura looked at the moon. Hotaru was asleep on the couch of Sakura's room. Haru sat next to Sakura.

"Hey Sakura. You ever think about getting a, you know, a—"

"Boyfriend?"

"Err…yea."

"I dunno; don't think I'm ready yet." Sakura said as she lay on her back.

"Oh…"

Sakura got up and headed of towards the kitchen.

"You want anything to drink?"

"No."

Silence prevailed.

"Sakura?"

Silence said its, "…"

Haru walked over to the kitchen. Sakura was nowhere to be found.

"What the—" Haru said, "Hotaru! Wake up! Sakura's missing!"

Hotaru got off of the couch and looked around. Haru focused his energy.

"RUNE MAGIC! LOCATOR SPELL!"

Energy lanced throughout Haru's body. His eyes showed him a map. He knew where Sakura was.

"C'mon! I know where she is! I bet this has something to do with that Magna guy."

"That's funny," Hotaru mumbled, "I thought only Rune guards had locator spells."

"Heh heh. She's pretty cute."

"Mmmf!" Sakura said with a gag in her mouth.

The first man touched Sakura's cheek.

"No wonder Lord Magna wants this girl. She's not half bad."

"Shut up and just get the girl back to the boss."

"Mmmf!"

Sakura tried to kick the closest man, but missed.

"Heh! Don't even try."

Think! Thought Sakura, I can't summon without talking. Wait! We learned how to summon with our minds today! Let me try…

"Let's go."

What should I summon? Anubis won't work. What was the summon we learned today? Um…oh yeah! Fenrir wasn't it? So imagine Fenrir.

Sakura though of a very big wolf.

"Time to go—AAARGH!"

The first bandit was knocked into the tree. A giant silver haired wolf appeared in front of Sakura.

STAY AWAY!

Hsing jumped off of Fenrir/Kazuo.

"No killing this time."

I WILL DESTROY ALL EVIL…

"No you won't."

Hsing turned towards the three bandits.

"Now I recommend you to go to where you from came from."

"You think you can beat us?" the second bandit said.

"Uh…yeah."

I SENSE POWER. LOT'S OF IT.

Hsing swallowed hard.

Black mist enveloped all of them.

"Ha! You thought that you could beat us! Now face our ultimate weapon."

The bandit's voice died away. A man walked toward Hsing and Sakura.

"And I thought the legendary Fenrir was dead."

Fenrir growled.

"Kai of the Luna clan."

SORRY, BUT YOU GOT THE WRONG PERSON.

"Hmm?"

THE REAL FENRIR WAS KILLED BY THE LIKES OF YOU!

"I did not kill anyone."

LIAR!

"Ah. So Kai is dead now. Then you must be his younger brother. Give us the girl Fenrir."

NEVER! YOUR MASTER HAS TAKEN ENOUGH LIVES!

"Lord Magnus is not my master. My master works for him. And I did not kill your brother."

Hsing came forth.

"He's right Fenrir. My father killed your brother."

The man turned to look at the Hsing.

"Sis, what are you doing here?"

"What does father want?"

"He wishes to please Lord Magnus."

"Why?"

"He wants you to come back."

CHARON! LEAVE AT ONCE!

The man turned to Fenrir.

"Sorry but I can't. To disobey my father will only cause Hsing more harm."

"Magnus cannot hurt me, brother."

"Yes, but you never know."

Fenrir bristled and charged at Charon.

"Fenrir! NO!" Hsing cried out.

Charon turned and raised one hand.

"Shadow tower!"

A geyser of shadow leapt from the earth and launched at Fenrir. Fenrir was too large to dodge it.

Just then Haru and Hotaru appeared from the other side.

"Oh my god! That man is about to kill that big wolf." Hotaru exclaimed.

"So?" said Haru.

"Yeah, I know, but it would be more reassuring if Sakura wasn't so close to the place where the wolf would land."

"WHAT!"

"I said…"

Hotaru was speaking to empty air. Haru was rushing to the rescue.

Haru stopped in between the two titans. He rubbed his hands. New magic coursed through his hands.

"Protectors of the Throne! Rune Magic! AEGIS!"

A divine shield formed in front of his hands. It was translucent like the moonlight.

Haru held his hands up against the shadow tower. The shield grew. There was a bang, a lot of noise, and five pigeons, and one man with a very large trombone.

The after math resulted in the shield fading after the shadow tower dissipated. Fenrir had changed back when no one noticed, five pigeons became a meal for a beggar and the man with the trombone played his trombone.

Three days later.

Sakura sat down.

"What a funny dream I had. I didn't remember until now."

Haru sat down next to Sakura.

"Hey Sakura, I have something to tell you."

"Yes?"

"Well, I really—"

Knock. Knock.

Sakura got up and opened the door.

A young man stood there looking at a scroll.

"I was told that Haru and Sakura Otohome was here and—"

"What?"

"Err… you two are siblings right?"

"NO!"

"Um…you aren't by chance married?"

"NOO!"

"Damn it, I messed up again! Oooh, what will the principle think."

Sakura twitched.

"Anyways, Sakura congratulations on gaining one job ranking by a high powerful summon with advanced techniques."

"Summoning with my mind is that hard?"

"Err…summoning Fenrir with your mind is supposed to be impossible for beginners. You've been upgraded to a level A Mystic."

"Yea! Haru your turn."

"What?" said Haru as he walked to the door.

"Err…", the boy said, " Err…Haru…what's your last name?"

"Kotoba."

"Yes. Haru Kotoba. You have failed your rank as a rune knight."

Haru's jaw dropped.

Sakura prepared for a shout or a cry of pure frustration.

"But, someone has convinced the principle and has provided really good evidence* to let you upgrade to a level S Rune Guardian. Congrats!"

Kazuo listened form under the balcony. He dropped down and made a perfect landing.

"Now we're even." Kazuo muttered to himself.

*the evidence consisted of a recollection of four people that saw Haru use the spell, specific detail of what the spell did, Charon's words, and 20 zenny.
