Chapter 3
-Music-
KevanThe weekend was uneventful. I actually organized my room and put my things away in their proper places. I polished my floors, dusted, and cleaned the surfaces of everything. I did anything to keep my mind from wandering back to Friday night. Ryan was constantly on my mind, no matter how hard I tried to keep him out. I really wanted to see him again. Hopefully I would even though it would do me no good.
Monday rolled around and school came and went. Cheerleading practice was a waste of time and a big headache…apparently no one cares about the sport besides me. After cheerleading, Rayne and I decided to hold a band practice since we hadn't had one in a while. We met at her house around 7 that night, which was a good time for all of us.
"So…you gonna sit at the mic. all day and pretend you know what you're singing?" Rayne asked at practice. We had been rehearsing old songs, so I knew the words…I just couldn't stop thinking about Ryan.
"Yeah…you've been…a little loopy lately. What's wrong with you?" Lori, the bassist, asked.
"Oh my God!" Rachel, the drummer, screamed. "Are you pregnant?!"
The girls immediately started screaming and gasping because they couldn't believe that someone like me would let that happen. I glared in their general direction.
"Okay, for starters, I'm on the pill." I stated, using my fingers to count. "Secondly, I use condoms as well so that eliminates any possible chance of me getting pregnant. And, three, there's nothing wrong with me."
"Ooh…sassy." Rayne whistled, raising her eyebrows.
"Something's bothering her." Karen the pianist smirked. "I think it's a guy."
Again, the girls turned to each other and were making side comments and "oohing" and "ahhing". I was getting a bit fed up with their girly ways.
"I think we should stop talking and get back to work." I stated, turning to the microphone. "Potential Breakup Song…now."
The girls started up the music as I began singing.
"It took too long
It took too long
It took too long for you to call back
And normally I would just forget that
Except for the fact it was my birthday
My stupid birthday
I played along
I played along
I played along, rolled right off my back
But obviously my armor was cracked
What kind of a boyfriend would forget that?
Who would forget that?
The type of guy who doesn't see
What he has until she leaves
Don't let me go
Cause without me, you know you're lost
Wise up now or pay the cost
So you will know
You're not livin', till you're livin'
Livin' with me
You're not winnin', till you're winnin'
Winnin' me
You're not gettin', till you're gettin'
Gettin' to me
You're not livin', till you're livin'
Livin' with me
This is the potential breakup song
Our album needs just one
Oh baby please
Please tell me"
I loved this song. It made perfect sense. I thought it was a good way to end a worthless day. For some reason, singing was a way for me to let go of my anger and frustrations and instead to let the music take over my body. Music was my passion…not a hobby.
"We got along
We got along
We got along until you did that
Now all I want is just my stuff back
Do you get that?
Let me repeat that
I want my stuff back
You can send it in a box
I don't care just drop it off
I won't be home
Cause without me, you know you're lost
Minus you I'm better off
So you will know
You're not livin', till you're livin'
Livin' with me
You're not winnin', till you're winnin'
Winnin' me
You're not gettin', till you're gettin'
Gettin' to me
You're not livin', till you're livin'
Livin' for me"
We finished the song and the room was quiet for a second.
"Wow," Lori said. "I think that was the best time we've done that."
"Yep." Karen commented, hitting a few keys on her keyboard. "Something's definitely wrong with Kevan. It's never sounded that good before."
"Yeah. Maybe she went to Confessions." Rachel agreed, looking around the room.
"Maybe she has her period." Karen whispered to whomever was listening, hoping I wouldn't hear.
"I said I was on the pill for Christ's sake! That means no period." I answered, throwing my hands in the air. When would these people learn?
"Don't take the Lord's name in vain." Rachel scolded. When it came to religion, Rachel was a devout Catholic, which meant, watch your language around her.
"Yeah," Rayne said, "don't take the Lord's name in vain."
"Oh, please." I commented. "You are way to far away from your religion to even tell me what I should and should not be doing."
"Maybe she needs to get laid." Karen murmured.
"That's it." I said. I put my guitar in its case and faced the others. "I don't have my period, I am sexually satisfied, and I'm leaving."
"Okay, she really needs to get laid." Karen said as I left the room. If I had had something that wouldn't break nearby, I would have thrown it at her.
I loaded my stuff into my car and started up my engine. My cell phone started ringing, indicating that I had a text message. I grabbed my phone and opened the message. It read:
Ryan's cell is 856-555-5662.
Call him.
-Rayne
I smirked. At least she knew what my problem was.
I tucked my phone back into my purse and began reversing out of her driveway. I hoped to God that I would see Ryan soon. My sanity depended on it.
