the blooms reach up
elbowing for space
in a crowded garden of
sunlight
they observe
the world moving
around and around
they wink as they grow
joking inaudibly
about things
we can't understand
they blink and peer
trumpeted crowns
shining in the gloom
rain falling down
but they tiptoe
exquisite beings
that last
only a short time
yet live on beneath us
forever
