And sheds a bitter tear.
The multitude of men invoke
The worst of her deep fear.
Her ancient shrieks so rend the Earth
That Earth profusely cries.
The myriads of men ignore
The wisdom of his vies.
His whimpers echo o'er the clouds,
And tempests toss the wind.
The dampened souls of all the men
Condemn them to rescind.
Their elder lust torments the sea,
And waters sink its pains.
The lack of virtue held by men
Oft force its hopes to wane.
The whole of Earth is plagued by wills
That it cannot defeat.
The troubles of the modern world
The hearts of men repeat.
She would offer all her spans
If one could this amend:
She asks to free her from her binds,
To purge the land of men.
We ought to answer her request,
But we must change our ways.
Our selfish, loathsome contraband
Taints all her hidden bays.
And we must answer swift and sure,
Lest judgment she should pass.
'Tis certain we will be destroyed
If we don't break our cast.
