Amazingly I wasn't that tired after running, Amanda though looked pretty worn out. So we headed over the bleachers to wait for whoever else was left out there, Derek just followed us.
"So are you guys freshmen?" He asked us, to which I gave him that 'are you an idiot look'. "Right, dumb question, you wouldn't be here in gym class if you weren't."
"Yeah, so Derek you must be a freshmen too. Does that me you'll be at the freshman seminar after this?" To this I gave Amanda the 'are you an idiot look'. Derek smiled and I think noticed my look and seemed pleased that he wasn't the only one receiving my not so nice glances.
"Yep." Said Derek. The freshman seminar, okay let me explain. All freshman at my school are required to go on Tuesday morning at 11 to noon, to a better yourself type this. Yes all 1,500 of us they squeeze into the auditorium. At this people come speak to us to motivate us, or who are taught life skills, etc. It's not all that bad and mainly is done as a social oppournity thing in a way so that we can meet more people and learn at the same time. Isn't my school nice?
"So maybe we'll see you there?" Asked Amanda. Okay, I realize that I'm new to school and that Amanda in one of my few friends, but god I can't stand when people flirt so openly.
"Yeah, I'd like that. What if I meet you guys outside?"
"Well, actually I told my roommate that I'd sit with her today, but you two have fun." I said just as Mr. Thompson dismissed class.
"Lexi, she can sit with us too. I'll bring my roommate too, and Derek you bring yours alright?" She had stuck me, I nodded as Derek said alright. Great now we had a seminar date, yippie!
I headed back to my dorm room to change, Amanda lived in a different dorms than I. I was lucky and for some reason had gotten one of the new suites they had built. There was only one suite of freshman, 8 of us sharing one bathroom. That wasn't so cool, but we all had our rooms well with a roommate of course, and a living room area. Walking back, I felt like someone was behind me and sure enough there he was.
"So Derek is stalking your career or is it just a favorite hobby?" I said it sarcastically enough for him to understand this time and he smiled.
"Well personally, I find it to be a very enjoyable and relaxing hobby. Though I have thought about a career in it, I just can't decide between or Jennifer Aniston." I smiled, okay that was cute. I have to admit.
"So you like the name Jennifer? Those are the girls you go for? Man, is Amanda going to be disappointed."
"Yeah, well only in celebrities in normal girls I just like first names that begin with either A, or B, or C, occasionally a D, E, F, or an G, sometimes a H, I, J, or K."
"Please stop, I get it all 26 letters are good with you. God, sorry I made the comment."
"Yeah, well I let it slide this time. So where you headed?"
"Back to my dorm to shower."
"Yeah, I kinda of figured that much. I mean what dorm building do you reside in?"
"Oh that right, I live in Winston Hall. You?"
"Cameron-Smith."
"Cool you're hall is across from mine, so you got into the lucky new boys suites eh?"
"Yep, and you got into the girls suites obviously. Kinda sucks that they aren't coed." He smiled again, and I smiled back. See our school is a Christian one, like really strongly and because of that none of the halls are coed. Personally it didn't bug me, but I got what he meant.
"Alrighty, well thanks for walking me to my dorm Derek." I said stopping in front of my building. "I'm sure you didn't mean to but since you did thanks. I guess I'll see you in an hour."
"Yeah, so Amanda said outside right? And by that she meant which entrance?" He asked.
"Not a clue, you that big oak tree? The one with the plaque cause it's dedicated to some dude. I'll go there and look for both of you, so that is where you can meet me."
"Okay sounds good, see you later." He said with a wave and started walking away.
I got into my dorm room and showered, then Julie my roommate walked in. "Thank God you're here!" I said.
"Sheesh, I didn't know you missed me so much." She laughed.
"Yeah well, remember Amanda?" I asked.
"Yeah, the one from your gym and English classes?" I nodded. "What about her?"
"Okay well in PE today, this guy Derek hit on both of us and I'm not obviously not interested cause I have John, but she is so we and by we I mean her, kind of arranged to all meet again at the seminar but I didn't want to so I claimed you'd be with me, so now everyone is bringing their roommates."
"So what you're really saying is you need me to be with you at the seminar?" She asked, and I nodded again. "Sure I planned on being with you anyway, and this way I get to meet a guy or two."
"Exactly, maybe you'll find true love."
"Yeah maybe."
So, from this Julie had to get ready which meant makeup, different clothes, the whole nine yards. I never wear makeup, I'm not sure why Julie does either. She's so pretty and like naturally I mean. Her hair is auburn, but then she has wicked bright blue eyes, and acne free skin. It's so not fair. Plus she's and she's not too skinny or fat and is overall nice. Sometimes I wonder about my looks, I'm skinny and short only like 5'1 with brown eyes and hair. Okay maybe the hair is dirty blonde, but only because I put in highlights. Still I think it's brown in reality. There is nothing more to me, but anyway I just sat there, reading my English book and waiting. I'm really studious like wicked badly, I can't help it my parents told me not flunk out of college and I wouldn't want to let them or myself down. Finally she was ready, I mean we still had 15 minutes or so but I hate being late. It's my biggest pet peeve. I'm very timely, okay actually I'm one of those 5-minute early people. Being late just bugs me.
"So," Julie started as we walked to the auditorium. "What does he look like?"
"Who?" I asked.
"The kid we are meeting, I mean if we are looking for him and can't find him I won't be much help if I don't know what to look for."
"You're such a liar, you just want to know if he's hot or not."
"Well, is he?"
"I guess so. He's like 6 feet, not skinny, but not fat. I mean maybe it's cause it was gym he just seems athletic, and his arms had muscle but not like overly done. Let's see, his hair is dirty blonde so really it's light brown which won't help much cause everyone has brownish hair and from a distance you can't tell the difference between the brown hues. What else would you like to know?"
" Umm. eye color? Smell? Nice?" Julie is always like this. When I told her about my boyfriend I practically had to go over our whole relationship and we've been together for 2 and a half years so it took quite awhile.
"Well, Jules it was gym class so you know he smelt gross and was all sweaty. I think he had blue eyes, he has floppy hair or maybe it was just sweaty but they were somewhat covered. I just hope he isn't dressed all ghetto, but his gym clothes were normal so I hope everything is peachy. And he was nice enough, and seemed to have a sense of humor. Is that good enough?" She smiled and nodded. "Good then."
Upon arrival I dragged Julie to the oak tree explaining it was our meeting point, and we waited until behold two boys arrived. One was Derek and the other was my type of guy. Blonde hair, blue eyes, not too tall with a cute baseball hat and dressed nicely in jeans and blue chucks with a rancid shirt. Oh semi-punk boy I love you already.
"Hey Lexi." Said Derek, his accent gave my name this funny drawl. I mean everyone down here had accents but his seemed very noticeable. "I'm Derek," he said holding his hand out to Julie as she introduced herself. "This is my roommate, Gabe. He's shy or he would have said that already." I laughed, and said "hey" to Gabe. We all just stood talking until Amanda and her roommate Justine found us. They introduced themselves and we were off to find seats. Somehow, Derek ended up next to me and I ended up on the end.
"So Lexi, " he said, all of the other girls where talking to Gabe. Apparently, he wasn't all that shy and they were taken in by his good looks. I mean, the boy was hot gosh darn it. "Is Lexi your real name?"
"Oh Derek, I'm not sure if we know each other enough for such intimate details." I responded with a giggle. I know I'm flirting, I can't help it. John use to say that it was okay, so I guess the rule still applies. And no it's not okay cause he wants to flirt as well. It's okay because generally, I don't really think of it as flirting it just how I act. My sarcasism is normally taken to be flirting and John always knew I never meant anything but it.
"Oh I'm sorry then. Please I beg for your forgiveness, how about you just tell me what you want to then I don't want us being to involved for your sake, I'd just break your heart." I laughed, god what a conceited brat.
"Okay Dere Bear, actually I'm taken so us being involved would be a hard and yet, I doubt you'd break my heart if we were involved. I much prefer to do the breaking." After saying that, I kind of realized it and almost swore. I mean, okay just as a rule don't tell guys you're taken. Guys are pigs and there can not handle being told you are taken and instead of being a good friend to you, they generally stop talking because they realize getting into your pants is not an option any longer. Lucky for my sake, the seminar, which today was on healthy eating well in college, began and I didn't have to be bored and embarrassed sitting on the end of a row with no one talking to me.
But somehow Derek was different and halfway through the seminar, he started to poke me. "What do you want?" I asked trying to be as quiet as possible.
"I'm bored, and you stopped talking as soon as this thing started. You must be a studious type, or you care about eating healthy which not many kids do as this age." He smirked.
"Not actually I want to remain in perfect health, and this is a very stimulating seminar who knew that fiber was so important to your diet." I joked.
" I see, I was more fascinated by the effects calcium has on pregnancy. I mean going to a Christian school you think sex would not be so openly discussed."
"I think they mean pregnancy in the future and how not getting enough now will effect us then."
"Lexi, I was kidding. I'm taking it you're the studious type."
I smiled, and nodded. "Just a wee bit. In high school, I did well and didn't try but I worried college is going to be a lot harder so by starting out studious I'm hoping to get into a good habit."
"Yeah, I goofed off in high school and managed to be 4th in my class. I'm not sure how though I don't even remember studying." If he was trying to impress me, it worked. 4th is pretty high up and he didn't seem to be lying about not studying nor did it seem like he was trying to sound like a genius, he was just being honest.
So the seminar continued, for another 20 minutes and Derek and I talked quietly until it ended.
"Alrighty, now I must push people off so I can get to my next class which starts in ten minutes." I said.
"Cool, I'll help." And he did, he started pushing through occasionally pulling my arm to drag me with him.
We got out, and I must say it was quicker than the other time I had to try and do it myself. "Thanks Derek."
"No problem, so I shall see you in gym on Thursday?"
"Oh yeah, I'll be there with bells on."
" Awesome, I hope you can run with those."
"I'll do my best. And by the way Lexi, stands for Alexis, if you still want to know. Bye."
