I looked down upon the valley
In all splendor where it lay
And watched the sunlight stirring
With the breaking of the day

The trees' sweet, fresh aroma
Rose up from the valley floor
And I could just begin to hear
The rivers muffled roar

I sat on a protruding rock
And took in the peaceful scene
The wide, blue sky, the hard, gray stone
The leaves' unearthly green

The silhouette of morning doves
Swept across the rising sun
As one, single steadfast buck
Took up in his loping run

And here there is a rhythm
Some unspoken pace
And I wish that I could always be
Part of the beauty of this place
