A/N: This is one of my ideas, since I can't find my notebook where my main story is. *sighs dramatically* It's fairly annoying that I just finished the outline, and now I can't find where I put what I actually have written on it, or the outline. I'll probably find it when I move out. Figures. Anyway, I'd really like it if I could get some good input on this, since I really don't think I did a good job on this. The ending A/N tells what I think was bad about it. Please take the time to review!

In the Shadow of the Moon

Prologue

By Silver Magiccraft

Emerald woke with a start; she had had that nightmare again. Every night it was the same, the same dream, the same jolt of waking up, and the same inability to sleep after that.

If only they hadn't been run out of every town they had ever lived in. If only the mobbing villagers hadn't murdered her mother when she was six, gods, her life would have been much better, and she wouldn't have these horrible nightmares.

Suddenly there was a loud bang, then silence. Emerald shot out of bed and grabbed her sword. Even though guns were commonplace, those remaining mystical creatures never forgot the old ways, the ways of the sword, the bow, the spear, and any other medieval weaponry you can imagine. Emerald had been taught those ways, as had her parents, and grandparents, and all other relatives. The ability to defend herself with her weapons became very useful with the way her and her father switched towns so often.

Emerald hurried towards where she first heard the sound, and found herself facing her front door. Just as she reached the door, the same bang repeated itself. She leapt back, startled, and glanced behind herself to find her father standing there, armed. He held his hand up, signaling her to stay where she was, and swept toward the door. He squinted through the eyepiece first, then swung the door open to reveal some neighbors standing there.

'So, it's finally time to leave this town, I was starting to wonder when they'd finally get around to kicking us out. It looks like they finally found the nerve to "risk their lives" and come on over waving the . Seems like the dangerous werewolves were finally too dangerous to stay in their "peaceful town."'

Emerald snapped out of her thoughts with the slamming of the door. Her father turned towards and let out a weary sigh. Luckily his job as a professional bouncer was in need everywhere, and they especially wanted to hire out non-humans for their strength, or else their family would be living on the streets.

Emerald tried her best to give her father a cheerful smile as she spoke to him, "Looks like we're finally leaving this hellhole for a new place. I was starting to wonder when it'd come about, since we've been here a record breaking 9 months. This town was really starting to get boring, so I'm happy." Emerald smirked at her father, then continued in a pacifying tone, "I might as well start pack now, it's already 5, and we'd be getting up soon anyway. You go to work, and give them your notice, and then we can start looking for a new house, okay?"

Daniel sighed again and looked at his daughter. "You're way to cheerful about these moves. Oh well, you're right and we might as well start right now. You go start getting your stuff ready for the boxes, while I go get them for the garage, okay? When work starts for me I'll give them my notice and hope they don't get too mad. You'll do most of the packing, and I'll house search. That sound good to you?" He looked at Emerald with weariness, and waited for her response.

"That sounds great. Good plan." She gave a teasing smile, then a look of seriousness came over her features. "Don't worry too much, okay? We'll just have to move to a town with a higher population of demons and weres. I'll go get ready for those boxes then!" Her smile lasted up the stairs and into her room.

'I hope dad's going to be okay. I just wish we could find a town that will accept us without too much of a problem. That'll be the day. I just hope it dose happen sometime soon, all this moving is really wearing dad out, and I don't know how much longer he'll survive living with mom's death, and the stress of moving. I'll just have to pray to the gods.'

~~**~~Two weeks later~~**~~

Emerald was practically jumping with excitement, today was moving day, and they were moving to a town that actually had a higher population of demons than humans. As long as they didn't piss off any of the separate groups they just might live there for a year or more. They might even be able to stay there for as long as they wanted! It was awesome.

'Finally the day comes! We are leaving this stupid town in a couple of hours, and I might be able to make friends. Real friends and maybe even a boyfriend! I'm so excited, I can't wait!'

Emerald ceased her mental ramblings when her father called her to gather the rest of her stuff for the car ride there. It would be a long drive but it was worth it by far. New people, new home, new school, and new everything! She couldn't contain her excitement any longer and literally skipped down the stairs and to the car, where her father was waiting to take them out to breakfast, and then to their new home...Where peace may finally reach them, and allow them to stay for longer than a simple and short year.

A/N: How was that? I'd really appreciate it if you'd review, with constructive criticism of course, and tell me how you liked it. I'd like a review or two before I post the next chapter, and if I get it I'll post the first chapter right after I finish typing/writing it. I'm not sure if this was really a good prologue, I thought it kinda carried on too much, but I wanted to get it as close to 1000 words as possible. I also thought it was a bit rhetorical, went in circles, and that it was a bit confusing. So I really need input on this chapter to know what I should change if I should change anything and stuff.
