Chapter 1
Kyrea Comes Back
This is the edit of chapter 1. I had written chapter one about a year and a half to two years ago and my writing skills has improved and therefore I wanted to review/rewrite/edit my first two chapters so that's what's happening. I hope that the beginning will be more interesting for those who read them, because I think that is a reason I did not get much readers. I think. So, here it goes.
"Dear Sheldon,
Our city of Mashiba is under attack by the warriors of Esthor. They have taken many of our men captive and killed outrageous amounts. They are going for the two stars that we have in Miss Shyra's safe. I fear they are not safe there, and neither is Miss Shyra.
You must come back to help us! Or else we will lose both stars and you know the remaining two are not safe. Or perhaps you have completed your task already and have the third star. In any case, it is requested that you make way for Mashiba.
We NEED your help.
Lord Therus."
Reading this, Sheldon stayed in shock.
NO! How could this be happening? How did they get to Mashiba without my knowing of their presence? How did they rise anyways? I thought they were finished. No! Can it be that…?
He muttered off to himself about his foolish mistakes as he folded the letter and let his head drop in his hands. Exhaling deeply, he fell in deep thought. To abort this mission, extract all his men and flee to Mashiba would mean time, and the loss of a star.
What if they could last by themselves one more week in Mashiba, perhaps Sheldon could make it to this third star and then go to their aid. If not, well, there is a lot to risk. It is only a matter of locating it anyways. They were meeting an informant to know the exact coordinates two days ago; the star should be in safe hands soon.
Other where, Kyrea was running furiously at her top speed and has no remaining energy. She got into the campment from the southernwoods and had only to climb the grounds. She had been on the run for almost one full day, in a rush to deliver important information to her leader.
"Move out of the way..." She struggled to speak between her heavy gasps for air.
As she looked up, when she made a quick halt, she noticed a big figure standing in front of her. As she tried to get around him, he did not grant her passage.
"Please move." She asked nicely.
"What are you afraid of, darling?" He asked from a deep voice, moving towards her, hands extended like if wanting to grab her.
Kyrea backed up a step in instinct. Knowing she had no energy left to fight, she demanded for him to move one last time. Again, he disagreed.
In a flash, she grabbed for her dagger and dug it into the man's leg. He fell to the ground, yelping in pain and Kyrea motioned for two soldiers to come forth.
"Get him to the paramedics section, cause of stab: stupid mistake of his part." She told them as they took him away as she resumed her race to Sheldon's tent.
Stopping for a bit of breath, Kyrea entered it without warning. Sheldon was facing the other way and was holding something in his hand, shoulders down and head staring straight infront – apparently not looking at anything in particular. This one was surprised that someone just walked in without warning, set down the letter he had folded earlier and turned around to face whom had just entered the tent.
"Sir, the informant at Delta didn't show up."
"What!" He questioned immediately.
His voice was loud and commanding, though he hadn't meant it to be. This new information simply was not one he wanted to hear and he reacted before he could stop himself.
"Yes, I ran back here as quickly as possible to let you know. I was met by nobody on the way to or fro and heard nothing unusual. He simply didn't show up."
Sheldon, in shock, slowly turned and hit his right first against his desk in frustration. After a bit of silence, Kyrea felt the need to ease his anger and, fidgeting a bit in nervousness, she decided to question him on his plan of action.
"What shall we do now, sir?" She asked.
A brief silence settled in before anyone spoke again.
"Call me Sheldon, Kyrea. But, pick yourself one partner; I will find you two gunmen. We are going to find that informant." He stated.
Sheldon paced out of the tent and Kyrea followed suit. He led them to a bigger tent labeled 'Communication Base' and pulled out a set of earpieces and mouthpieces.
"You will use this to report to me, I have the only other that can send or receive messages for your radio wave." He started, handing her a pair.
"Have your partner chosen and meet me up at Charlie at 14:30 hours. I will have the gunmen there too, be ready for deployment on your mission then."
He paused briefly and turned to look into her eyes as if analyzing her immediate response.
"I'm glad your alright- you were gone for quite a while." Sheldon finished, putting on a warm smile.
This said, Kyrea smiled back, nodded and left the tent and entered an other. They all more or less looked the same save their size and some were labeled. It was quite easy to mistake tents, especially if your spirits are elsewhere. The one that she entered this time was a medium sized one, where the off duty people were found. She spent little time in here since when she was off she either slept, ate or trained. At this point and time in her life, her career was most important – nothing else really appealed her. Drinking her ass off, spending her time worrying of others, playing video games, these kinds of activities were not her. While walking around she spotted two men drinking at the bar and three others playing poker with a female gunmen.
Oh, I hope Sheldon does not pick her; she is not very dependable since her last mission. Kyrea thought while sitting down beside one of the poker players. The female one had gotten scared when the target counter-attacked and threatened her life. It is not as if she was not well trained but she apparently could not handle that situation. She had then dropped her weapon and let the assailant take her captive, clinging onto his every word like a scared dog. This caused complications, and the thing that bugged Kyrea most is that she was still involved in everything and acted all high and mighty like if her screw-up never happened.
Her thoughts were interrupted when the body next to hers erupted in a fit of giggles, just like a kid.
"Demetry, I need to ask you something." She started.
Noticing all others looked her way, she added "in private."
She stood and left while the man named Demetry excused himself from the game and followed her, intrigued. She watched as some interested faces seemed to be guessing in their minds what she was to speak to Demetry about.
"What is it?" he asked, once they had gained some distance from all wandering ears.
"You know that I was sent out to Delta to find informant 34C00B, well, he did not show up."
"What! Any ideas as to the reason why not?"
"No, it's hard to tell, I don't doubt that it was a free-willed decision though. Anyhow, I have been sent out on yet another mission, branched on my first, and this is why I have come to you. My job is to find the informant that didn't show up, question on his... misplacement, and get the Intel I was supposed to gather 2 days ago." She explained, taking a breath here and there for she was still exhausted.
"And you will do this alone..?" He questioned, concerned.
"No, silly, that's where you come in. I was allowed to two gunmen and a partner, the partner I get to choose. And that would be you, if you decide to accept the offer... and Captain Sheldon will pick the gunmen." Kyrea offered.
"Oh, sure. I'm just on call at the moment anyways, let me just pack my bag and prepare and such. I will be there."
"Great, meet us at Charlie for 14:30 hours. Be ready to leave then. Thanks!"
Kyrea smiled gently and waved as she ran out of the area to go prepare, as Demetry returned to complete his game of poker.
So I edited not all that much but still. I thought it needed revising.
