The Beast within the Wood
What, prey tell, is watching me
With green and yellow eyes?
Hiding deep within the trees
To take me by surprise.
Sniffing out my human scent
Its tongue is wet and long,
Judging just how far I am
As I skip happily along.
Maybe not so hungry was the beast within the wood,
Or a thought that I'd imagined, as I know that my mind could.
It doesn't matter what it was, a fox, a snake, a bear,
I only hope that I was right to think it wasn't there.
