Hero's Failure

A man kneels in a rocky bed, his brows furrowed.
His heavy heart weighs down on his chest, filled with grief
A heart soaked with salt and tears, beating slowly in painful heaves
Soaked with the many tears that his mind barricades from his eyes
Eyes blinking and stinging as the flood swims behind them.
Alone in his sorrow, he suffers a loss too great to bear,
Why could he not save them? A plague, this question, his brows furrow.
