There once was a person that I used to know
I'd watch her performing in a spectacular show
Acting boldly with poise and pristine
A small jewel shined to a lusturous sheen
She brightened the stage with her shimmering smile
Coaxing us all to forget about our lives; if only for awhile
As she paced back and forth the stage was alive
The applause was an ecstacy the shadow of the curtain couldn't deprive
And as her feet left the stage, it would wither and die
She would walk back into her mask of deception and lies.
Never thinking twice of the that time long ago when she'd left somebody
behind;
Of when she'd abandoned her hopes when the world had proved unkind
She'd stepped into her mask of deception and lies
The light that once shone in her deep eyes had fallen dead in the face of
compromise
The cruel phenomenom that we call life had left her broken with only a mask
of deception and lies.
Deception and Lies by restless-wandering
