"You Miss. Harton?"

"Yes sir, I am. Why'd you call me outta class?"

"Your mother has been killed in a car wreck."

*~*

She turned her head away from the window. The memories were sometimes too painful to remember. But the past two weeks were coming back to her as the plane was being taxied out of the gate.

*~*

"Shadow? Do you want me to help you pack?"

"No thanks Ms. Buchan. I can do it by myself."

"All right dearie, but if you need me; my apartment is just downstairs."

"Thank you for looking after me Ms. Buchan."

*~*

The man sitting next to her was not to pleasing to look at either, very large around the middle, bald, and a long white beard. The plane took off and abruptly she remembered how much she hated flying, but was quickly obliterated by another memory.

*~*

"Shadow, we both love you and we're going to write as aften as we can. Keep your promises, dance like nobody's watching, sing like nobod's listening, and live like you're never going to die."

"Ms. Buchan, 'Rukai, I'm gonna miss you both so much."

"My little demon, give me a hug and get on that rackety, piece of crap of machinery they call an airplane and never look back. Your past is never gonna change, but the future is your decision. Getting over the hurtles is why we live the way we do. They make us who we are, and nobody can decide that for us, not even your father. Shadow Remembrance Harton, we both love you as family and will never forget you."

" 'Rukai, I will come back to you. That is my promise. I won't let him dictate the way I live my life for me. I love you too. Goodbye."

She closed the window shutter, leaned her head against it, and started to cry silently. She hadn't cried once in the past two weeks because she hadn't wanted Ms. Buchan nor 'Rukai to see her break down and her hard shell that she had developed over the years to crumble away, but she felt a sort of comfort in this stranger next to her that was trying to fix his suit no matter how much it wrinkled by sitting on it. She had this comfort because he had no idea who she was and they had a high chance of never seeing each other again in the rest of their lives. She still felt no shame when he said, "crying is good for the soul. Pour your heart our, just don't get any tears on my new suit.
